I think by rule it is targeting and is an ejection.... but the rule is beyond stupid.
These coaches HAVE to teach these kids how to tackle correctly or they will continue to have their players ejected all the time. You simply cannot lower your head and use it as a weapon. You need to keep it up and see what you are tackling. I think in that sense I hope the rule works and does end the lowering of the head with intent to injure. I cannot stand how poor the tackling technique has become.
However... ejecting players is dumb. It affects the outcome of the game too much. Maybe it should take two targeting calls in a game to get thrown out? Maybe you should have to sit for the rest of the quarter or something?
And what about when a runner on offense lowers their head? That is just as dangerous and should be called the same way if safety is the concern.
Clemson kid should be thanking his lucky stars he isn't paralyzed right now dipping his head like that. Unreal. Hard to even watch.
