I agree that payton needs to be a higher priority with this class. Obviously his bounce stands out, he's a natural dunker. But I'm more impressed with how he maximizes his athleticism with anticipation and a suddenness to his rolls and cuts. This suggests a good basketball IQ and court awareness. He's more Ejim pre-senior year than he is Solo, even pre-injury. Payton is very quick to spots and doesn't hesitate. He's not the most skilled scorer, but I actually like that he doesn't try to be something he isn't. He has a nice drop step and has a relentlessness to his game. He moves his feet well and shows some upside at the rim, although he is an inch or two on the short side, so he will never be an eraser. I think this kid can be an overachiever, which to be honest have been the majority of our best players since the Royce White team. We don't have anyone that can do what Payton does, and we aren't in on anyone like that either. I think he can help us get back to winning even though he's probably the 3rd or 4th most talented player we are in on. Only Ejim or Hogue brought similar abilities and they were invaluable at all stages of their careers from day one. Williams is solid but I think his long-cast shooting motion and underwhelming athleticism will be tough to overcome in the Big 12. Williams is a decent backup plan at best, which is why he's probably our easiest get. The other guys we are in on are all good takes, but I'm not sure if they will help us raise our win total dramatically any time soon with our current roster, with the exception of Sallis, of course, which I don't think we should be counting on by any means.

I am too lazy to research. Can somebody tell me if any of these guys can shoot? We have many needs, but I would put shooters near the top of the list. Hunter will create, but who will he throw it too?

I trust Sallis will immediately but any other HS player it can take a bit to traslate 3 pt shooting to college. Just look at Matt Thomas, who may be the best we've seen at ISU but not really till the end of his 2nd year... both Scotty and McGee were also older.
I suspect the staff recruiting + athletes to develop and then plan to use a scholly on a transfer shooter fill that role next year. There is also hope that Tre and Walker can suppliment Bolton and Harris. (especially if Walker can take some PG minutes moving both off the ball)

Applewhite is considered by many to be the best 3 and D player in the 2021 Class

SHOOTERS! Agree! Multiple ones! Especially with the offense CSP runs and lack of an elite inside game.

I go the other direction and Prohm needs to sign a big post AND athletic power forward. We lack physical play and are a bad rebounding team.

The reality is Foster and Conditt may be our only big men on the roster next year. And Conditt's play so far this year raises questions on if he can be an effective Big12 player.

At some point the 8 or 9 guards/wings have to produce.

IMO if we would have a stronger post/paint game, our guards would automatically be better 3 point shooters because they would get better shots.

Well - you are not wrong. More than one way to be successful.
I do think we seem committed to small ball.
Playing small, with guys that cannot shoot, will not yield success. Recipe for disaster imo.
