Campbell on Hot Mic

I think offsides should definitely have been called.... but how in the world do you not snap that ball?? You have to know the rules better than that..... just snap the damn ball!

Totally agree! I played center in high school. Snapping the ball when a defender is in the neutral zone, is one of the fundamentals you learn when first playing the game. That said, centers today also call the blocking schemes in addition to accurately snapping the ball in the shotgun (our qb always played under center). They have plenty on their plates.

All I know is that it was awesome. Love coach and his fire. Reminds me of Larry Eustachy and I loved him too

Ah Larry. Wonder what he's up to now? Think he would take a job as a gameday referee communications director for the basketball team? Just have him there just to let the refs know when they screw up.

Better yet, dress him up to look like Prohm and get him on the bench. Trouble is, the can of Diet Coke would blow his cover.

Yes. I was shocked that both Purdy and Campbell carried on the rant. I know they know these basic rules. I was quite surprised Campbell did not get a technical. (I know most will disagree here, but) I actually thought he was threatening the official the way he kept repeatedly pointing at him. Seemed totally out of character for Campbell.

From just the bits I've seen, Campbell seemed to go too far. A little composure never hurts.

The frustrating thing for me was why didn’t Purdy snap the ball once they jumped offsides? Get a free play or worst case 5 yards.

Somebody mentioned one of our tight ends moved then, that should’ve been hit which then would have been an offsides due to being the reason he moved

I was thinking the line had strict instructions to NOT move or snap no matter what happened, but could be wrong I guess.. no idea why they wouldn't otherwise.

So if a technical is given, do they get a free field try or something? :D

Why should it have been called? No contact and if it doesn’t cause movement by the offense if you get back it’s not offsides. It simply isn’t a penalty. On replay you could not see clear contact.

"No player shall target and make forcible contact to the head or neck area"

Yes there was forcible contact, yes the receiver was defenseless, but I don't think Young was targeting the receiver's helmet. When Young commits to the tackle, I think he expects to drive his shoulder into the back of the receiver. It looks to me like he is trying to get under the helmet. Unfortunately, Stoops falls in a goofy way and the contact is to the head. Young can't even see this at the moment of impact.
I haven't seen this mentioned but does Young have to sit part of the bowl game as well? That would really blow if so.
