I understand there would be leagues against that, but the alternative is things like "eye test" which is subjective AF. You want to determine these things on the field, this is the most straight forward way to do it.

Agree. Baffling why they're fighting so hard to avoid acknowledging this. It's not like there wouldn't be gobs more money in it.

It's so simple and if you use the computer formulas from the old BCS, it puts the entire argument on the field between the players, the way it should be.

I hear a lot of noise/momentum to increase the size of the playoff to 8 or even 16 teams. I'm telling you now, that is the wrong direction for college football.

There will be random brackets created that make that structure look appealing, and some years it would be, but most years it will not. In fact, it will be worse than what it is now.

Truly the best system was the old fashioned system (or even the BCS). Many will disagree with this but I have a long list of reasons why that is true. We can't compare an 8 or 16-team playoff with the BCS right now because it's never happened but let me predict what will happen.

You're going to have a ton of rematches (ie: Clemson v ND Part 3! ISU v OU Part 3!) which are terrible for the sport and don't truly tell us anything (why should we have to beat OU a third time?) It would weaken the regular season (who gives a **** who wins the Big 12?) The entire focus of the season -- like it has become with this new playoff-- would be about who the top 4 teams are AND THAT'S IT. I bet in the last 90 days ESPN has spent 10 minutes talking about conference championships-- which used to mean something.
It will create an even greater imbalance of power between the Haves and the Have-Nots. Like we're starting to see with AL, Clem, OSU.

I'm telling you, it's a bad direction for college football and even worse for a program like Iowa State. I can go on with my reasoning as well but I'm tired of typing

ESPN is a business, they only care about which fanbases put more asses in seats, and tv ratings to sell to advertisers for money. Don't think any further than that.

JFC! Indiana has played only ONE team with a winning record. And lost to them. How the hell are they rated that high?

it's only to prop up and justify Ohio state as number #4, that is the ONLY reason. They don't even have their star qb anymore cause he's injured.

This may be unfollow worthy of Joel Klatt. Ohio State at #2? I get Fox has financial interest in the BTN and Big Ten championship but Ohio State at #2 is atrocious.

Usually love Klatt and he typically is one of the few that actually talks up the Big 12, so this is a bit surprising from the Big 12 rankings in his list. The Big Ten love is purely due to their contract with FOX.

Agreed, he’s solid. Outside of his Ohio State ranking I wouldn’t argue with any of his other rankings.

I’m wondering if TCU could sneak into the rankings this week. They have two Top 25 wins (completely forgot about them beating Texas) and there will likely be a couple teams dropping out from last week (Missouri & Colorado).

Not sure how anyone could possibly be expanding the playoff to eight. Even if it did become SEC love fest, it shouldn’t if they allow every P5 champ and a G5, ISU would have a much better chance of ever making an eight team playoff than a four team one. First round kicks off bowl season at the better seeds place, semis and final where it is now. You could even have losers of first round play a NY6 bowl against each other for more TV money.


At the very worst if it expands to eight, it’ll be four more high level football games to watch and as a fan of college football, I will be tuning in

Exactly, 1 and 2 get a mid major and the Pac 12 champ. 3-6 are the teams that have the argument. Now they could square off to see who really earned a trip to the semis.

Alabama hasn't lost to Florida since Tebow's Junior Year in 2008. I think it is 6 in a row by double digits including 3 SEC Championship Games.

Dan Mullen has never beaten Saban, not even when he had Miss. State ranked #1 and Dak Prescott at QB.

This is probably the best Alabama offense of all-time, and that is saying something. The defense ain't bad either.

Anything can happen, and this is the first time for Saban to play Florida with Mullen at the helm, but I think Alabama will cover the -14 line.

FWIW, I've been to 6 Alabama-Florida Games including 3 SEC Championship Games. The Tide has won 5 of the 6. I did see the 1996 Gators win 45-30.

Those games don't have anything to do with now, but I'm familiar with the ebb and flow of the series, as I have lived in both states.

I hope Alabama nukes Florida so hard they fall way, way down the rankings outside of NY6 range.
