OK, what am I missing here? I'm a Cyclone first, but I'm a UNI grad. So, I want Born to be great for UNI. I have to admit I walked away from the St Mary's game disappointed in both Born and Green.
While Born can stroke it, he was in the wrong places and killed the motion multiple times, wasn't strong enough to penetrate in traffic and couldn't create a shot over the length (in addition to some both height and quickness defensive issues). I firmly believe he'll become a great player for UNI, but I wouldn't trade any of our freshmen for him. I see much more upside with each of our four freshmen.
While I get that Green is a good player (and even great in the MVC), I don't get the overflowing of superlatives the announcers were giving him. I was disappointed in his decision-making, especially in clutch situations. He took some terrible forced shots at the wrong times, and he struggled to penetrate when that was necessary. He played hero ball when UNI had an option that was working. For a coaches son (and PG), I expected more. I hope he proves me wrong the rest of the season, but my admittedly only one exposure this year was not favorable.
All the comments on here I had heard about Phyfe were equally confusing as he was the only one scoring at the end of that SMU game. I would have kept feeding him the ball until SMU stopped him (and then UNI would have won).
Oh well, at least I get to talk about Panther bball on CycloneFanatic.
