Bowen Born

OK, what am I missing here? I'm a Cyclone first, but I'm a UNI grad. So, I want Born to be great for UNI. I have to admit I walked away from the St Mary's game disappointed in both Born and Green.

While Born can stroke it, he was in the wrong places and killed the motion multiple times, wasn't strong enough to penetrate in traffic and couldn't create a shot over the length (in addition to some both height and quickness defensive issues). I firmly believe he'll become a great player for UNI, but I wouldn't trade any of our freshmen for him. I see much more upside with each of our four freshmen.

While I get that Green is a good player (and even great in the MVC), I don't get the overflowing of superlatives the announcers were giving him. I was disappointed in his decision-making, especially in clutch situations. He took some terrible forced shots at the wrong times, and he struggled to penetrate when that was necessary. He played hero ball when UNI had an option that was working. For a coaches son (and PG), I expected more. I hope he proves me wrong the rest of the season, but my admittedly only one exposure this year was not favorable.

All the comments on here I had heard about Phyfe were equally confusing as he was the only one scoring at the end of that SMU game. I would have kept feeding him the ball until SMU stopped him (and then UNI would have won).

Oh well, at least I get to talk about Panther bball on CycloneFanatic.

Because it is really hard to do -- even on your own, never mind when 6'6"+ guys are trying to stop you.

The ones who are really good at it are not playing college (at least for very long) and making millions for it.
Some of us slipped through without playing college or pro ball . . . . ;)

If Berhow had been available (COVID), Born should have been on the bench. Berhow could actually be useful on this years Cyclone team. Born would not. I'm sure he'll be fine at UNI.

He's their #2 scorer shooting 47% from three. He's not losing minutes no matter who's coming back.

And we have our answer.

AJ Green is dealing with a hip injury that's most likely going to have to be repaired surgically and he'll miss the year. Totally explains why he seemed so off last weekend.

I guess if there was a year to miss, it's this one. Lots and lots of minutes for Born to have to get better.

We don’t have a single pure shooter on the roster. I have a purer shot than any player ISU currently has. I’m not saying I’m a better basketball player, or that I could play against college guys. I’m saying if you put a video of me shooting jumpers and the ISU players shooting jumpers side by side without seeing the results and put up a poll that asked: which shot form looks more pure, I would win.
I always felt you were a little off (especially your politics) and I think this post proves it.

Where are you seeing/hearing this?

What's the deal with Cole Henry? Is he still hurt? I know several UNI posters on here were thinking he'd be good, but I see he only managed 10 minutes in a blowout against St. Ambrose.

Who has played so well their minutes should be guaranteed? Bolton is soft, a huge defensive liability and disappears for long stretches, JCL has 10 turnovers in 2 games, Harris shoots well but doesn't appear to be able to create his own shot and again, atrocious on defense. Born wouldn't be the savior but none of our guards are irreplaceable. We have a team full of role players that don't fit well together and none fill the role Born would bring.
Have you seen Born play defense?

yeah as a team our three point shooters Can’t shoot over 30
Percent but we don’t want a guy shooting over 45 percent from three. Sure he may get a little lost in the offense and defense right now. Covid year and he is a freshman. Most freshman are lost to start the season.

At least we didn't take Buggs.

Woof.

He has played 25% of their minutes in three games... and has literally not made a shot.

THIRTY minutes of game time and... nothin'.

Mostly a numbers game. UNI is only ever going to play one big at a time and James Betz has passed him by. Betz is just flat a better shooter and has much better feet defensively.
