I’m going to keep this short and sweet.

The “biggest game in Cyclone history” stuff is getting old to me. Frankly, I’m tired of talking about it, and we are sure to be doing the same thing in a couple of weeks. But this is what happens when you keep winning, which is obviously a good thing.

However, allow me to make a brief point as to why Saturday’s game against West Virginia is even more important than last week’s historic win at Texas.

Multiple sources have led me to believe that if Iowa State wins this one – because of its No. 9 ranking by the College Football Playoff – Iowa State could be looking at a Fiesta Bowl berth even with a loss in the Big 12 Championship Game. Of course, if Iowa State wins that one and the Cyclones would be back in Dallas...

I feel so bad for the kids and this fanbase. Here we are on the verge of doing something thats never been done before. Yet, if they go to a New Years 6 bowl they won't get the full bowl experience that they deserve for doing something magical. Mostly, the seniors deserve that icing on the cake and memories for the year they had. This fan base would flood AZ or TX with 50k strong in a normal year.

No doubt. I've never been to a bowl game, and I wasn't able to go to the Alamo bowl, but told myself that I'd go for the next big time bowl. This could be that bowl :(

I'm at this bowl almost no matter what. Wish I could make CCG but too early of a game to make it for me.

Small bone to pick with Chris. The final game of the 1976 season the Orange Bowl was on the line. Instead, by losing, there was NO BOWL. That had more on the line than this game

Maybe modify to read "in Modern Era" LOL

"On the line?" Ehhh, kind of. ISU needed a win plus help to get the Orange Bowl. When the game was played, nobody knew that a loss would keep ISU completely out of bowl season.

After losing to OSU, the Bluebonnet was still possible but was no longer in ISU's control. Oklahoma beating Nebraska the next week solidified the whole thing.

*Colorado won the 3-way tiebreaker (Orange).
*Oklahoma (Fiesta) and OSU (Tangerine) had already accepted their bowl bids a week earlier, because they realized they couldn't win the Orange tiebreakers and didn't want to get shut out.
*That left ISU in line for the Bluebonnet, because that bowl's committee had figured on NU going Orange and had ISU as a place-holder. Except...NU's loss to OU kicked NU out of Orange contention, and left them available for the Bluebonnet to snatch up.

By that point, all the bids had been issued and ISU got musical-chaired right out.

I was going to mention this because @MartyFine pointed it out earlier this week. If ISU had won at Okie State at the end of the 76 season, the Cyclones were going to the Orange Bowl.

Does anyone know, will Fiesta Bowl scouts be at the game tomorrow (or any bowl scouts) or is that not possible because of Covid?

Anybody at all worried about the let down game that CW eludes to? For some reason, it would just seem so Iowa State to lose the game tomorrow. It kind of feels like our December game from 2 years ago that served no real purpose in the grand scheme of things. Yes, I realize that there is at least something on the line to be gained here, but the guys are essentially guaranteed a spot in the Big 12 Championship game. We seem ripe for an upset.
