Mike Rose Snubbed

Reporter: Hey coach Campbell, we saw Mike Rose was not even a semi-finalist for the National LB Award. What do you think about that Coach?

I can lip red that! And I agree!

Actually, he’d say, “That’s a good question. I’ll get back to you on that after the season.”
Actully he said, " That's not winning the margins!" Pretty obvious.

Still not a great look.

1 player where Rose is better statistically in 4 of 4 categories
7 players where Rose is better statistically in 3 of 4 categories
5 players where Rose is better statistically in 2 of 4 categories
2 player where Rose is better statistically in 1 of 4 categories
0 players where Rose is better statistically in 0 of 4 categories

So...
statistically better than 8 players
statistically a push with 5 players
2 players statistically better than him
Clearly he doesn't belong. :mccaffery:

So based on these stats he should be in a tie for 3rd on this 15 player list dropping Monty Rice off the list.

Almost a better example of what a joke these awards are is when Joel Lanning was playing QB, running the ball, throwing the ball, scoring touchdowns, playing on special teams, and, oh by the way, one of the top linebackers in the Big 12, but yet the Hornung Award for the most versatile player in college football went to that running back at Penn State because he also did kickoff returns! Oh my!!!! So versatile!!!! He can run the ball from a handoff AND also from a kickoff!!! Just, wow!!!!

You're right. But let's not bring in anything like objective stats. Too obvious!

Nice example!

Remember, the Big 12 doesn't play defense
It really is quite pathetic this narrative still exists. There was a time not too long ago that there was a case to be made for this. I know I know points per possession etc. But it was bad for a bit. However, that is not the case anymore at this current juncture and national media members and analysts are allowed to sit up there and spew this garbage. I mean they are down right lying at this point when they say that.

Am I dumb? There’s 16 players on that spreadsheet, plus Rose. 1+7+5+2=15?

We have a response, he actually messaged me back. Sounds like he could be a write in candidate in the coming weeks, whatever the hell that means. This is the response from the note I sent, paraphrasing but I essentially said 10 tackles for loss, 76 tackles, 4 int's, I was not only expecting him to be a finalist but perhaps a leader for winning the award- - -

Thanks Patrick. Growing up in the Big 8, I too have been keeping an eye on the Cyclones. Great season and yes, Mike Rose is having a great year.

As you might imagine, it wasn’t that he was left off. I’m told he was right there in contention for the final spot or two, but just missed the cut by the process our selectors do their grading. Stats are part but not all of the story.

We offer a write-in feature for our selectors, so nothing is final.
