Mike Rose Snubbed

The Butkus award semifinal list was released and Mike’s name is nowhere to be found. I expected to see a list of 3-5 people but there are SIXTEEN LBs they think are better than Rose... kind of criminal to not give him the recognition he deserves
Reporter: Hey coach Campbell, we saw Mike Rose was not even a semi-finalist for the National LB Award. What do you think about that Coach?

Maybe favoritism but I would not have anyone else to build my linebacker core around more then rose. Absolutely snubbed

Found this picture on Twitter that listed the stats of the finalist with Rose included at the bottom..I think they are still running with the “Big 12 doesn’t play defense” sentiment since there isn’t a single Big 12 LB on the list

Among that group:
3rd in tackles
1st in tackles for loss
1st in interceptions
10th in sacks

Yeah clearly those players are in a different league.

Other guy with 10 TFLs has half the total tackles and no INTs

I really think he might be my first pick in hypothetical fantasy draft of all ISU defensive players since I became a fan in 96.

Pete Werner from Ohio St is on that list. What an absolute joke. I guess trotting out onto the field and making a handful of tackles each game is enough to get you national attention... as long as you play for Ohio St. That is literally all he has done this season

If he isn't first team all Big XII at the very least, it will be a crime.

And what makes you or anyone sure this will happen? Two years ago we went 8-4 and finished 3rd in the conference and did not have ONE SINGLE PLAYER make the first team. Not even David Montgomery who clearly had the best season.

You know, we can all sit here and say these awards aren't a big deal. But that's not the case. This hurts recruiting-- a lot. What 4-star linebacker wants to play for a program that you won't ever get national recognition for? Hey kid it doesn't matter if you have the best season of any linebacker in the nation, no one will recognize it. They'll give the award to an Ohio St kid that barely played all season

Sorry if i went overboard

While it's easy to want to claim an anti-Iowa State bias, there are guys from Rutgers, Tulsa, Mizzou, Utah, etc. on that list. So it's not like it's all names from blue bloods.

Probably just laziness in the selection process.

For what I’ve seen, he’s not even their best linebacker either

There is even more of a case for Rose. He is a true 3 down LB and is doing it all from the Sam position. Most leading tacklers are MLBs in a scheme designed to keep blockers off of them so they have a clearer path to the ball carrier. Rose makes plays from sideline to sideline and often sheds multiple would blockers in the process. He is also versatile enough that he could excel at any of the LB positions.

Of course, I'm not sure it will happen. I'm just saying that if it doesn't, it will be a crime. Rose has to be on the radar of NFL GM's by now.
