Which one dimension do we make them take? Just running?
Take the running game away and make their lack of experience on the outside beat us.

Aka let Johnson and Kyle play straight up on an island, and put 7 in the box.

Maybe (likely) it won’t be that simple, but it seems like the obvious move with what they’ve had going on at WR.

What do you mean by the bold statement? I do not remember us screwing around with UNI last year.

We should do all these things, but I anticipate we're in for a dogfight. I am not quite to the level of predicting that we are going to lose this one, but this is not going to be one of our easier games.
We were very, very obviously playing abnormally conservative against UNI last season until crunch time, and still almost lost with that. We did not approach that game as we did for conference games. It looks okay in that statbook, but terrible on the scoreboard -- that kind of game will not win against UL.

No reason to do that here. All 10(?) games are equally important. Go full force with it from game 1. No s***ty first game this time, we can't afford the early mishaps against a sharper team.

For those who are curious.

Louisiana (11-3) Rank 43

Loss x 2 App State (13-1) Rank 25
Loss Miss State* (6-7) Rank 47
Win @ Ohio (7-6) Rank 82
Win @ Ark State (8-5) Rank 89
Win @ Georgia Southern (W) (7-6) Rank 92
Win Miami (OH)* (W) (8-6) Rank 93
Win Troy (W) (5-7) Rank 100
Win Liberty (W) 8-5 Rank 101
Win UL Monroe (W) (5-7) Rank 112
Win @ Coastal Carolina (W) (5-7) Rank 128
Win Texas State (W) (3-9) Rank 152
Win @ South Alabama (W) (2-10) Rank 158
Win Texas Southern (W) (0-11) Rank 256

So their best win was against the "82nd" best team in Sagarin - Congrats?

I can remember a number in inexplicable turnovers that killed us last year. I think those get cleaned up this year, and we are world beaters.

45-17, good guys.

The only time I can think of where a majority of the opposing fans expected to lose to us was the Drake game in 2018.
I expected about 50/50, maybe a touch more to them, and a lot of close game calls. Not like 75% them and many by more than 1 TD.

I'd like to see the return of run-threat Purdy, too, but I won't get my hopes up.
Why not? He’s back to full health now, and CMC has repeatedly talked about the added dimension a running quarterback adds to an attack.

The only way Brock isn’t running in this game is if we don’t need him to.

He was full health at this point last season, too, but his running threat was minimally-used.

Until proven otherwise, I’m always nervous when ISU plays. They can be giant killers, roll over and die or play at the level of their opponent. It’s always a crap shoot.

Purdy was full strength in the UNI game last year, and there were probably 4-5 times where we failed to convert on 3rd down where he had 10-15 yards of open field ahead of him and he wouldn't run.

He was definitely coached to avoid running at all costs, and it nearly cost us that game.
