I will be looking to purchase a different vehicle

Can't go wrong with a 1950 (+/-) Chevy panel. Saw this at the grocery the other day. Think it's the owners daily driver. Gotta love a guy who has a 70 year old truck as his daily driver.

Is that the old "case of Krylon spray paint cans" paint job? Years ago I knew a guy who was a farm hand and didn't have much money so he brush painted his car. You could see the lines in the paint job but from 10 feet away it didn't look too bad.

I was thinking of starting a thread but I put here for now... we are soon to be in the market for a mini van :-(. As I understand there is Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Pacifica, and Toyota Sienna. Any and all feedback would be much appreciated. This is a total function over want vehicle for us, so quality and features are all that matters. No real concern for brand or actual look.
We had a Toyota during that phase of our life. Went that way because we could get it in AWD. We had basically zero complaints, the only problems we had were pretty minor. The biggest issue we had was one of the rims leaked air and I had to stay on top of the tire inflation.

just here to echo the crazy car market right now. deals are very hard to find - 2020 inventory got depleted, 2021 is delayed from covid, and used supply is tight too, prices are up huge versus pre COVID.

normally you can get great deals this time of year, but my lease expiring in august 2020 was unlucky timing for sure!

oh, and you can't go wrong with an odyssey or a sienna. they can do everything, hold everything, ride great, tons of technology for the kids., super reliable, great re-sale. they're amazing.

I bought a new Pacifica 2 years ago and I really like it. It's a mini van, but it drives great. It's got a 300hp V6 and it'll get 20 to 25 mpg depending on how aggressive I drive. Biggest downside for me is driving in snow as I was used to AWD vehicles before I bought the Pacifica, but its not that bad. New models have AWD as an option.

We bought a 2018 about 2 years ago. Definitely highly recommend the Pacifica.

We got a 2019 Odyssey almost 2 years ago now. Actually got a great deal on it new - probably less than $1k more than a used one with ~10k miles so it was worth it for me to have the full warranty. I really wanted the Pacifica hybrid - it is so quick off the line (great for city driving) and the fuel economy and range are amazing, but the wife wanted the Odyssey for all of the features and she was probably right. No complaints other than the ones that are inherent to owning any minivan.

Buy new. The dealers are pricing used to carry nearly the same price as new.

Used 2016 Ram with 80k miles was 27k. Brand New Ram 2018 was 30k after their extended cab discount of $5k.

Best way is to price them among others that are as similar as possible. I will say that there are two things I have always felt were the two most important things. 1) Do you like it? If yes than you are half way there. Don't buy something you don't like because you will get rid of it soon or hate it for the time you do have it. 2) Can you afford it? You don't want to give yourself a burden or a headache. Affording it also doesn't mean that you have $700/monthly of spare cash before you purchase it and you find something that will only cost you $690/monthly. Make sure you have some cushion leftover at the end.

My answer to both of those is yes. But there are things I've heard about the Traverse that is making me second guess getting it. Would like to find a vehicle in Ames but i might need to expand my choices to outside of Ames. Where have people who have gotten cars in the central iowa area with regard to the dealership?

We’ve got a 2015 Traverse AWD and it’s ok. My wife likes it but I’m not a huge fan. The seats are fairly uncomfortable to me. For some reason, we had to have the entire power steering system replaced at like 40k (luckily under warranty). Other than that, no issues. It only has like 55k on it though. The AWD works well in the snow now that we put better tires on it last year.

I like the Explorers better. They are a touch more expensive though.

The power steering went out in my Colorado with under 300 miles on it. They don't even bother trying to figure out what's wrong. They just replaced the module

They tried replacing the pump on ours but it granaded almost immediately. They ended up replacing everything the fluid touches after that.

For the repairs to be covered by warranty, the dealer has to go through certain steps that the company requires for it to get reimbursed

Contamination is the worst enemy of any hydraulic system. You'll be chasing problems forever if you don't get everything out of that system.

We had a 2010 Traverse that gave us a lot of problems. Timing Chain was replaced, needed new A/C lines as well. All of this before it got to 100K miles. My wife got sick of the repairs so we got a Nissan Pathfinder. I liked the look and ride of the Traverse, but it was not reliable at all.

Traverse is very similar to the gmc acadia(both made by GM), which is what i own. I have a 2010. We have had issues with the timing chain, struts, power steering, water pump, A/C, and other small electrical issues(windows, locks). Vehicle is only at 83k miles.

While im not trying to steer you away from the traverse, i would do my homework on it, before settling on it.
