Not exactly sure.
Wait..................there is a virus going around ..........................what?

You know in the 1800s into the 1900s people raised and butchered their own to eat. The plants came about to serve the city demand.

So we could kill two birds with one stone here. Make sure each person has six foot between them and anybody else, meaning you would get rid of tall buildings, which would allow each person to raise their own food for the most part and then not worry about this stuff. Genius.

I’m kind of curious about these post office outbreaks. Those seem to be hush hush around here for the media. My local post office had a breakout of 5 employees in the past week or so. Only God knows how many more were infected.

Should shut down the mail. That is one of the more obvious things for spreading the virus. One person touching a stuff that a lot of other people will touch and they will probably not disinfect their mailbox, mail slot, or whatever mail device they use.

Also heard COVID lives on cardboard/paper for at least 24 hours.

Yep, so you agree that we need to shut down the post office? Probably best to shut down UPS, fexEd type places also.
I think only essential packages need to go out(medicine, etc..) and each post office should have a maximum of 10 carriers driving packages out each day from their station. My local post office has at least 70 mail carriers close together every morning casing their mail. I’d have an anxiety attack in that situation.

My post office has like 5-6 people, so we could hire more! Also, several pharmacies will deliver, along with groceries will deliver or you order and just drive through and they throw it in your trunk. I think you could get rid of the postal people for a month with no trouble. Save the government a lot of money also.

Of course the elderly matter. They're lives are just as precious as mine. What I'm saying is that those people in those facilities are the most susceptible as they basically mark every box the CDC says are most likely to suffer the worst consequences. The reality of this situation is that they were always going to be worst off.

The idea was kinda fine, but man, the wording was bad.

A better analogy is comparing the nursing home folks to trailer houses when a tornado hits. You basically pray that it misses that area, or you know that it will be a lot of destruction if it does.

USPS is not government funded. They make money off shipping and mailing services.

With them 60 billion in the hole and most to their pension fund, who do you think will fund that? The government. They aren't directly funded, but they are going in the hole and just waiting for money to be given to them to clean up their mess, like the state pension fund did some years ago.

Gee. It’s almost like something happened in 2006 that requires the post office to prefund their own retirement plan.

you know better than this.
Even if the prefunding didn’t happen the USPS would still be in trouble as of today. The USPS gives great union jobs, but it’s a dying business regardless and it’s ran like crap. Just ask any employee. There’s no respect for the top managers/executives.

They were supposed to fund their pension (including paid HI which was the big monster), like other organizations were supposed to. They were down to 49billion in 2007ish but are now at 66 billion. Many of the post offices around here have either closed, had layoffs, or drastically reduced hours to avoid having a postmaster on site. So they haven't really made much traction on this.

In all honestly, the post office is becoming obsolete in its current structure. They need to stop delivery on Saturdays, no need to be delivering 6 days a week. It will force more people to go electronically, besides most are. This is an archaic service that could go away and people wouldn't miss it after a year or so.
