My guess is day one Johnson starts at the 4 but XF will get every opportunity to get that role and be starting by January. JJ playing SF and XF @ PG day one is also in play. Players with Xavier's ranking don't go to a school with plans to sit and learn for a year.
Similar ranked players like Matt Thomas, Georges Niang (B12), Lindell Wigginton, and Talen Horton-Tucker all started day 1. Top 60 kids usually need to prove they aren't ready be a starter first rather than prove they are first in this time of early transfer landscape.

those guys all started some their freshmen year, but generally not day 1.

I think this all depends on what the opposing team is putting out there as well as how good Foster really is. If he's too good to not start and Solomon consistently plays like he did from the middle of the season on, it's not impossible Xavier ends up at the 4.
Imo most Big 12 teams will be able to exploit us having Foster and Young (or Conditt) both out there.

On the other end, I’m not sure Foster makes up for it. I think/hope he’ll be a good 3P shooting big man, but why not just have a wing then? Will he shoot the college 3P that much better than our wings? Will he rebound that much better?

One exception is if we go zone. Two 7 footers is intriguing!

If we get Turner and Aiken, I think this team is capable of making the tourney again. Bolton, Young, and Conditt IV are all solid to go along with these two transfers and if Foster is ready to be a beast immediately then this is a solid team that should be able to finish in the upper half of the conference. I'm excited to see what happens in the next week, especially with these two guys and the rest of the transfers that seem to like us.

Right now BartTorvik.com has us projected at 14-17 without any of our possible transfers. I think it's certainly possibly we can bump that number to 18+ with a couple more solid pieces.

He also has the following PPG projections for our new additions:
Johnson - 8.7
Foster - 5.3
Blackwell - 3.2
Dubar - 2.8
Walker - 1.4

I’d hope any post, forward, or wing has a shot. We’re in trouble if he’s the best option next year imo. This staff just isn’t at its best with two bigs.

There could be a little of last year in which we try to force two big lineups because 3 posts are our top players, but it’s unlikely to be better than what 2017-18 or 2019-20 yielded

it looked ugly last year because they were exposed without great shooters around them to spread the floor. We tried to play Pete at the 4 which never really clicked. He looked better as a small five, but wasn’t as strong as Solo. Conditt and Foster have to get stronger if they are going to see much time at the five. It feels like they would improve our offense if they could flash to the high post and give us a pick and roll game consistently.

Foster was only a 32% 3pt shooter in HS. I don’t think he is going to be a reliable 3pt shooter at the college line.

You’re focusing on offense?
It looked ugly last year because it destroyed our ability to play defense.

Where Foster plays on offense isn’t the determining factor. As a freshman he’s not likely to look too much better than Jacobson (as a Jr?) which would earn him many freshman accolades

Foster has far more upside on the perimeter than any of our recent bigs.

Mintz would definitely be a good option. He has a ton of time playing in one of the best conferences. Will be interesting to see if they reach out.
I'm not so certain of Mintz. While his numbers do look pretty decent, especially for Big East play, he's never been in charge of leading the offense. On the teams he's been on, he's never really been better than 4th best guard.
16-17: Marcus Foster, Kyrie Thomas, Maurice Watson
17-18: Marcus Foster, Kyrie Thomas, Mitch Ballock
18-19: Mitch Ballock, Ty-Shon Alexander, Marcus Zegarowski (Mintz's numbers were basically even with Zegarowski, but Zegarowski was more the lead guard in the second half of the season.)

I'm not saying he definitely can not become the lead guy, but I'd feel more confident if there's at least one alpha in front of him.

Unless they hire a zone specialist assistant coach this summer, this team playing zone for more than a few possessions would be bad. Can you imagine the terrible rotations?

So now you're just making **** up? I literally said multiple times in the last couple days we should take him as a role player, and that he would be fun to root for lol.
wherever he choose he was going to start, hes not transferring to be a bench player, i know thats what everyones thought was it just wasnt happening...i was pretty undecided on him I do think he could have helped be curious what kind of year he has next yr at SDSU
