This is why Prohm must go........

Yup. In the college game these days, coaching is everything & the only thing. Parity is rampant. There are probably 30 teams that could win the tournament. We're not even close to being one of them.
What about last year?

I am resigned that there is no chance of Prohm being fired at the end of this season, if for no other reason than we simply could not afford it right now. Nevertheless, Pollard could insist on Prohm making changes to his coaching staff. Perhaps we could hire an assistant with experience at a school that plays tough defense, such as Virginia?

If the season continues to go this way and TH declares, there is pretty much no reason for optimism for next year. What happens to donations, ticket sales, merchandise, etc. revenue in a situation like that? Getting through another year shaves off $ on the buyout, but it's more complicated than that.

Not advocating for one move or the other, but I think the argument that waiting a year saves the reduction in the buyout and assumes everything else is static is very flawed. If this team finishes with 10-11 wins and keeps getting blown out by good teams and losing at home, and TH leaves for the NBA, there will be a significant loss of revenue for the program next year, and if things don't improve those losses are going to compound the following year until there is something to generate excitement in the fanbase again.

Thoughts:
• the schedule gets easier, win a few games and catch our breath, the team may show some small progress
• does Haliburton leave? He might. Hard to say. Not sure if there is a chance to come back and improve his stock or not.
• even if Haliburton does go, Steve is quite good with point guards. It wouldn't completely surprise me if someone comes out of the shadows to play point and does well next year.
• the real talent next year has to come from the 4 spot and scoring. Between Foster, Blackwell, and maybe a transfer, there may be hope
• the real question here is: is there hope in the long term? Baylor wasn't excellent overnight and we aren't going to land and keep a top notch coach ready year one paying bottom big12 coach salary.
• Would be interesting to hear an evaluation from a headhunting firm of our current program

If we only finish with 10-11 wins, I'll be very concerned as well. However, I do not think that's going to happen. We are not a good team this year, but, we are also playing some very very good teams. I realize we're losing by larger margins than we're used to, but we also took care of business against OU and OSU, while TCU banked in a 3 in order to take us to OT and beat us on their home floor.

I wouldn't expect to win against WVU either time, or against TTU and KU, but there are still 7 winnable games on our schedule, which includes the game tomorrow. If we'd go 2-5 against Texas x2, K-State x2, TCU, OU, and OSU.. I agree that next year will not look promising at all.

Yeah at least 17-18 there were a few games where ISU not only beat good teams, but decimated them and it was less of an issue especially as the injuries piled up.

But so far I'm not noticing much of an upswing with the team...maybe a little more aggressiveness the last few games and they've looked more comfortable in Hilton.

The '17-'18 team was weird. They looked really good some games and others looked like garbage. They throttled #8 Tech and #15 WVU at home, while also beating #17 OU at home as well. We lost two OT games against Texas and Okie State. We also only lost to KU both times by a combined 11 points. Some of the other losses were obviously bad but others were respectable and we had opportunities to win.. I think the loss of Solomon really hurt our chances of possibly picking up a couple more victories towards the end of the year.

The team this year has to figure it out though to gain any momentum for next season. It should come easier too. @ WVU and @ KU are losses, but there are tremendous opportunities the rest of the way to get better.

If you want to hire Sampson, you might as well go big. Get Rick Pitino. Would be an awesome hire.

Though, lumber yard would have to relocate to Ames .... for recruitment purposes.

What Sampson did wasn't even in the same ballpark of what Pitino did. ****, it's not in the same ballpark of what Sean Miller or half of big time coach did.

They will be bad again next year but my guess is Jamie gives him another year after that as well.

What we "know" of the roster at that point (and yes, all of this can change) --

Seniors = Bolton, Johnson, Griffin, Conditt
Juniors = Jackson, Grill
Sophomores = Walker, Dubar, Blackwell, Foster

I know so many want him gone, and I am frustrated right now, too, but if the program shows progress next year, I could see Pollard giving Prohm another year after next to see what he can do with senior Bolton, Johnson, Conditt and a year of experience for the sophomores, because if it is not working by that point, it will never work at all.

The schedule isn't really that much easier, and we're not improving.

Halliburton is gone. I just went surfing NBA Draft predictions with a simple Google search, and his lowest position in that general search was #10. He gone.

The Baylor thing: Prohm ain't Scott Drew. They just aren't the same situation or talent.

I know some say that we're playing tough teams this year. We'll play tough teams every year. At some point, you either are a tough team for others to play, or you have to point to playing tough teams as a reason that you're a bad one. Right now, we're a bad one looking a 10 win season in the eye.

I agree with you- I don't think the team completely collapses, nor do I think it's 100% certain TH leaves. However, I do think if there is a collapse that leaves the fanbase without hope or optimism next year, the financial equation is far more complicated than simply the reduction in Prohm's buyout.
