Yeah, world wide cross country skiing is usually referred to as Nordic skiing and downhill skiing as Alpine skiing (think of the mountain range, the Alps). I never thought my daughter would try it but she did.
It's like Chicago politics. They are counting dead people.

Minneapolis hosting a World Cup race this spring - first one in the US since 2001. Why they schedule a Minnesota race in March I'll never know. They are already stock piling snow in case they need to rebuild a melted course. This sprint course (1.4 to 1.7K) is mostly part of what the kids were racing on last night (4.8K). Daughter said it was the hilliest course she has been on in her short career.

And to ME, downhill skiing is tuck & bomb racing like in the Olympics. Alpine is what most people think of when they think "skiing".
Nordic involves ski jumps? Doesn't seem like you'd have the right kinds of boots & binders for that kind of stress on the ankles...
I had several marching band trombone players work for me about 20 years ago. They had an amazing selection of really bad t-shirts!
It seems odd but ski jumping is considered a Nordic event. The Nordic Combined event adds up your total scores for Cross Country plus Ski Jumping.
Huh. Did not know that. But the Olympic skiing biathalon is Nordic skiing & target shooting, right?
Specifically, it's cross country. I don't think there's ski jumping with a rifle.
Start a new one where you are target shooting Canadian geese while ski jumping.

Daughter's last two road meets (before yesterday) were not far from (first) a ski jump and (second) a biathlon range.
