Friday OT - The Big Cheese

The GoGos. Belinda Carlisle WAS the face and the voice of that group. She's who the media always wanted to talk to and was a big part of the reason (but not the only one, to be sure) why they didn't last (in the 80s) as a group. Carlisle ended up with the biggest solo career. Jane Wiedlin had one top 10 hit (Rush Hour). Two of the remaining three formed The Graces, but they didn't have a big hit.

A few off the top of my head:
CCR: John Fogerty
Van Halen: Eddie Van Halen
Guided By Voices: Robert Pollard
Nirvana : Kurt Cobain (each contributor important, but sans KC, it ain't the same thing)

Disagree on Nirvana. Listen to Bleach, then listen to everything else. Dave Grohl was an integral part of their sound and success.

To be fair, CCR sucks....

The Police.... Sting.
Again *nerd alert* but anyone who knows a lot about the Police will explain that it was a true power trio and there's an argument that Stewart Copeland is the best drummer of the 20th century. The list of drummers that count him as an influence is long and varies from Chad Smith to Questlove to Dave Grohl and beyond.

But you're 100% right, most people only see Sting.

I agree with you.... Stewart and Andy are great players. Most people fixate on Sting as the main guy because of his voice. They are definitely a power trio.
