So apparently the solution for cramming 5 lanes into 4 will be to block off one of the "through" lanes on 30.
I think that DOT drawing makes it look worse than it is. I thought at first that the "inside" flyover lane was going to have to merge with the WB US 30 lane (like when you take 80/35 S to 80W going toward Jordan Creek Parkway at the 'west mixmaster'...but at least here both flyover lanes extend to Dayton despite the need to merge with I35-SB ramp and one dropping at Dayton. It's not perfect, but Dayton is so close, and also I-35 SB isn't that busy for merging with one lane of the flyover. I-35 SB then have to merge again to get onto WB US 30, but again, better than what it could have been.
And looking again at the DOT drawing they will simplify that gameday merge by closing that WB lane before the flyover merge, since more will come from I35-NB-via-flyover than US 30-WB ...will back up US 30 a bit for those from M'town/Nevada, but seems smart to me. Simpler merge and then people can trade lanes between Dayton and Duff/University.
Here is what I mean about the inside lane immediate merge and "lane balance" at I-80/235 WB towards Jordan Creek:
....whereas this will normally be four lanes (with one exit only) to Dayton and then the 3rd lane has been extended to drop under the Dayton bridge:
