2010's Iowa isn't a big enough name to justify GameDay IMO. I'll believe it when I see it but I think they'll try to hold out for Texas
Chances of iowa/isu gameday 90%.... texas/isu 5% iowa isu= iowa winning first 2 weeks... isu winning week 1.... texas/isu= texas and isu both not dropping a game they are suppose to win. One of them will lose a game they are suppose to win

Interesting. Things must have changed a heck of a lot since I grew up in the Delaware, Clayton, Buchanan, and Fayette county areas. Good to know.
You musta had a really big home growing up.

BTW, how would Coach Mac not be the guest picker. Heck Gable and Mac would be perfect representatives of how loyalties to the school you played for can change.

Central Campus would be ideal. Most of the Tavern Hoks would never be able to find it, as they don't know what a college campus looks like. But let's hope this passes and CGD comes for the Texas game.
Not happening debbie downer... in the short time i have been on here you are the most opinionated "get off my lawn" "my way or the highway" person here

I live in the metro and the only Iowa fan I can think of that was a jerk to me was at the fair walking by the ISU booth. Started chanting go hawks and was kind of getting in everyones face at the booth a little bit. Drunk obviously. He stumbled off pretty quickly.

The worst was in Chicago. Went to a Cubs game wearing a Cyclone hat and this hawk fan was on a drunk bus outside the stadium. He was hanging half way out the window and screaming every expletive I can think of at the top of his lungs while giving me double guns. He seemed genuinely pissed. I just laughed at him. It was so over the top psychotic looking it was funny.

I rarely get anything beyond light hearted ribbing in person and I give it back. It's way worse on the internet, present company included.

I used to work with guys in Des Moines who took their talking points straight off of the Hawkeye Nation thread linked in this thread.

They were 2 extremely overweight brothers who were UNI alums, and routinely took shots at Ames, Iowa State as an institution, our entire fanbase, etc. Just the absolute worst kind of Hawk fan you can imagine.

Iowa winning both games and isu beating UNI is all that needs to happen.
Hope you're right but CU/SU will have a nice story line and is on ESPN while UI/ISU is on Fox, right?

Don't get me wrong, I'm in the "Gameday regardless of opponent" camp but I just don't see it for the CyHawk this year. If not for CU/SU I think it would've been a slam dunk.

Good news, I handn't heard that. Well, yeah...I'll expect UI/ISU on Gameday 9/14. Should be pretty cool.

The incident I described is honestly the only time I can think of getting involved, or being the recipient of that unfounded, condescending rivalry crap in this area.

When I lived in Des Moines, it happened almost weekly. And ISU fans are a much larger demographic there - which maybe explains it.

I have little doubt that's why. Hawkeye fans have lived most of their lives with very little resistance. I was outnumbered 10-1 growing up in central Iowa. As the numbers start leveling, and ISU fans become more boisterous, Hawkeye fans will start/have started to ratchet up their defenses. They truly believe we don't have the right to have pride in our team.

I think the current level of disdain between the two fanbases stems from McCarney's 5-game streak. It gave ISU fans a little juice.

That said, it's still a relatively tame rivalry if you're not a jackass. Generally, you get what you give. The NFL/WWE/Kirkwood crowd would be in full force if Gameday was in town, and that's a bad recipe because that's the crowd that goes way over the top and starts ****. 2005 in Ames on Friday night was a bad scene.

I agree, we all know people like this. Some of them are even on this site, posting away every day. They will have their diapers in a bunch on September 14.

Yeah, but the next day was pretty sweet.

I expected that in advance, so we just threw a big kegger out at Sterling and stayed a mile away from Campustown.

Well that and that they don't choose to go to either Arizona State @ Michigan State or Clemson @ Syracuse.

I would add (Coaches Poll) #23 Stanford @ #17 UCF. Stanford opens with #25 NW and USC before heading to UCF in week 3. If both win their first two, that would also be an interesting match up.

Not trying to discount our game, I think we should be ahead of that one... but depending on where those two teams are ranked in the AP heading into wk 3 that one would likely be considered as well.
