COLUMN: My perspective on Fred Hoiberg/Nebraska

Why would UNL be way easier? Just because NW has been historically mediocre doesn’t mean it’s impossible to get better. They’re improving their facilities, have academics to sell, and better location.

We get you’re a Husker fan and refuse to be objective. There aren’t any P5 jobs in which Nebraska is way easier. That’s why they’re one of the worst P5s of the last 40 years.
I never said Northwestern couldn't ever be successful. Its absolutely is a harder place to recruit just based on admissions. I can't imagine Northwestern taking a lot of transfers or jucos.

Northwestern and Neb have been pretty parallel in basketball. They took the lead by a nose when they won in the NCAA's in 2017.

Tech has been to four Sweet 16's and has had numerous tournament appearances.

If Fred went to Northwestern would you still think Nebraska would be a better potential program?!?
No Tech recruit gives a flying **** about anything Tech pre-Chris Beard. Nobody is going to Tech because they went to the sweet 16 in 1996.

My take on the Hoiberg/Nebraska situation.
Hoibergs an unemployed coach
Nebraska needs a coach
Nebraska will pay Hoiberg to coach

Nebraska would be way easier to win at than Northwestern. Just because they have been historically mediocre doesn't mean that it's impossible to get better. I'm sure you expected Chris Beard to have the success he has had at that national power Texas Tech.

Tech has had success in my lifetime and I’m 37. Tony Battie, Darvin Ham.

Coaches are hired guns--no more and no less. Their only loyalty is to whoever signs their checks.

Lon Kruger and I had classes together at K-State. Kruger was both a great player and coach. His jersey hangs in the rafters of the Octagon. He now coaches at Oklahoma. I neither hate nor love that fact. I do not wish him well nor ill will except when the Sooners are playing the Cats. Lon was hired to do a job in Norman. He owes it to his employer to do his best. I would be disappointed if he did anything less.

Why should ISU fans feel any differently about Fred Hoiberg? The fairy tale is in your heads and not Fred's. When you peel away all the emotions, basketball is just a business. It is also a lot more fun with the emotions.

And just what was Kruger's fancy nickname at KSU? That's why.

I’ve got a well earned reputation to live up to ;)

And this is my big moment. For years I’ve predicted he’d be back in college and no one believed me. I WAS RIGHT! :)

You also predicted the only football coach we’d be able to hire was a position coach, so slow your roll, Nostradamus.

It only counts when I’m right. And you’ve got to admit that I’ve been more right than any insider on this ;)

I’ll give you credit that you guessed accurately that a guy who has two choices of leagues to coach in might come back and coach in the one he didn’t get fired in.
