Hoiberg to Huskers

Wouldn’t love this but the guy wants to coach and be close to family so I guess I could see it.
A poster on that 4th rate hak forum said it would be a huge “FU to ISU”. Anyone who thinks that does not know Fred or his relationship with this university.

No kidding. If an opportunity doesn't open up in the NBA (which I still think it will), the guy wants to coach. And why not at a school where his grandfather coached and in a state that doesn't have a pro team or anything else besides NU football/sports. An FU to ISU is the farthest thing from most logical fans minds. He brought the magic back, got us relevant on the natl. stage again, and I'll forever be grateful.

Wrong again. Nobody outside the state of Iowa was saying anything about ISU football.

It's a lot of dough and Fred has shown us all that that is important to him. I agree, he should take the money. Tuition at ku and msu is pretty expensive.

I guess failing miserably and being the laughing stock of the NBA had it's advantages though, it opened all sorts doors like a 7 year prison sentence in the state of Nebraska at a school that has been historically bad at basketball. At least he will be able to score King Kong's, Don and Millies, Amigos and Runza at will. He may even know where to score Dr. Wells if he lives in Nebraska long enough.

Dude how can you be that angry at him? Would you have rather continued five more years of McDermott level success? Fred put Iowa State back on the national stage. 4 NCAA Tournament appearances in a row a first in program history. He left the next coach with a preseason Top 25 roster allowing ISU to attract a coach like CSP.

I will never understand the vitriol hatred for Fred who was an All-American player at Iowa State and arguably had the best 4 year run of any coach in school history. He is not without flaws but this program is in a much better place because of his contributions.

I’d be surprised if Fred takes the Nebraska job. There will be better college jobs open (including UCLA, Texas A&M, maybe Texas) in a week or two as well as some NBA jobs soon after.

If this doesn’t work out then Nebraska will look like fools, similar to ISU when multiple candidates were leaked who all declined before the idiot BVD had to settle for about his 5th option in Wayne Morgan. Also similar to Illinois when they leaked that they wanted to hire a minority then subsequently missed on Shaka and every other such candidate before settling for John Groce. The Chicago media torched the Illinois administration for that.

Also, if Nebraska doesn’t land Hoiberg after letting this story run while Miles is still coaching the team in the NIT, they will struggle to hire Prairie View A&M’s coach. I could be wrong and Fred does take the job, but if he doesn’t it will be a PR nightmare for NU.

It'd be a big **** you to Iowa State. But that's fine, I think we are better off and obviously we don't want someone who doesn't want to be here.

Have we established who did the leaking? If it's Fred's agent it's hard for me to put much fault on Nebraska. Though they should do more diligence, especially in this era.

As much as I'd like to see Nebraska look like fools, Bill Moos >>> BVDV

And I think we all know who Zagoria's source is.
Not all of us know.

How would it be a **** you? We never play them and might very rarely compete with him for a recruit. You are so bitter. Have you ever been dumped by a guy? I’d hate to think how that went.

Hopefully this is all part of his agent's game plan to get this rumor started to have the ADs from A&M, UCLA and others just to get a bigger contract someplace else.

It's fine to be a little disappointed with how his departure went down (recruiting gap, having to find a coach in June), but Fred was overall a net positive for ISU basketball. I'll always be thankful for him making ISU basketball fun again, and back on the national scene. And I'm sure he's thankful to ISU for giving him his big break.

It'll be weird if he does end up back in college, but ISU has moved on and is doing just fine under Prohm. No reason to be upset with him.

Angry? I was a little nasty about ku and msu because I hate those schools based on my lifelong fandom of ISU basketball. Dogging on his NBA coaching career is stating facts. I am super grateful for what he did at ISU as a player and coach. I have a ******* poster of the guy up in my house.

He left. I'm fine with that and wish him well. But I also didn't forget that he left.

I will never understand the people who are upset over where Fred's kids chose to go to school.
