Is Self Done at KU

1. Self isn’t going anywhere. 2. Danny Manning? Lol. Dude is 65-93 at Wake and 24-66 in conference play. I will never understand some fans obsession with hiring alums - we saw it here in football. People were legit saying we should hire Seneca Wallace and Sage Rosenfels. Kansas is a top 5 job - they can attract and pay for top 5 talent. They aren’t even sniffing at Danny Manning.
I would like it if Kansas fired assistant coach Kurtis Townsend as their FBI Investigation sacrificial lamb and then hired Manning as an assistant. Development of our bigs was much better when he was there.

Beard recruits those because that's what you can get to go to Lubbock and coaches recruit the best talent they can get. He would recruit the best talent he can get at Kansas as well.

I don’t disagree he would recruit better and the best at Kansas. But that doesn’t change his coaching style.

I'd go
1. Kentucky
2. North Carolina
3. Duke
4. Kansas
5. UCLA
6. Indiana
7. Michigan
8. Ohio State
9. Texas
10. Louisville
Louisville should be #5 on that list. The revenue generated by that arena puts them up there with the big boys.

Re: KU's next coach - Steve Alford has experience coaching at a blue blood. And players wouldn't be able to take improper benefits if they're detained in China.

Self came to Kansas as a gritty defense, lunch pail style coach. Dont remember which former Roy Williams KU player said it but he he described the difference between the two along the lines of "Roy wanted to beat teams 100-98. Bill wants to beat them 1-0."

Yeah but he sucks as a coach. No that is.

5 through 10? UCLA and Indiani are has beens. UM maybe OSU and UT are laughable in the top 10.
Michigan is a great job. Great recruiting brand. Good local recruits. Lots of money. And someone has to fill out the top 10. If not them, then who?

Indiana is a pretty good job but not great. UCLA isn't. Crummy facilities and their place in the game is vastly overrated based on one insane stretch of 15 years that ended decades ago.

Michigan State is a better basketball program right now, but it is not as good of a job as Indiana, Ohio State, or Michigan.

What's your criteria for a good job? Just a school with a lot of money? Texas is loaded, but I wouldn't consider them a good basketball job, because they aren't a basketball school.

Tradition, Money, Recruiting Base, Conference, fans, etc... Texas has more resources to be successful than any other school in the country that isn't a blue blood. The same for Ohio State.

Fair enough. My only issue with Texas and Ohio State is that basketball will always be second fiddle at those schools. But in terms of money and branding I see your point.

Just because UT has money doesn't mean its a top job, they don't care in Texas. UCLA no, Indiana can probably be again.
UT has top notch facilities. It's in Autstin. It's a massive brand. The have massive metro areas in the vicinity to recruit from. The only thing they don't have that a school like KU or UNC has is 100 years of winning championships. UCLA is THE JOB on the west coast and will always be. They have exactly the same things Texas has plus the tradition of a KU. Arizona, UNLV, Gonzaga, Washington, or whoever else will never be as an attractive of a job as UCLA.
