Morning Rush

What other option do you have?

Is it mind-blowing radio? No, but I got to listen to Bill Fennelly on my way to work this morning thanks to local sports talk shows like this.

I heard Jamie Pollard last week.

Relax...or provide me a better option on local radio in the mornings that promotes ISU simply by means of talking about them and keeping them top-of-mind?

But hey....if you enjoy listening again about the Antonio Brown trade.....or how in the world the Warriors lost to the Suns last night....go for it. IMO, average local radio covering teams that actually have some relevance to Iowa is far superior to national radio covering overpaid pro athletes lastest sneeze.

This is why KXNO kills it in the ratings. Yes...maybe more by default, but at least we have that option.
Both times, miraculously, Travis managed to not ask an inappropriate question to either guests. Really surprised about that. He's come a long way since asking Ben Jacobson if he actually was "doing well" after losing 4 straight last season. Or maybe a long ways from asking the ESPN writers who wrote an incredibly in depth and devastating piece on Larry Nassar and his victims, "Why did Shawn Johnson and so many other athletes wait so long to come forward if he was really as bad as they say he is?"

Being said, that's the bar for the Morning Rush. Is Travis going to say something so insanely idiotic that they get sidetracked for an hour or will they actually talk about something relevant?

It’s not that bad. It’s not a show to be taken seriously, as they don’t take it that way. It’s supposed to be “fun”, with a sprinkle of sports talk in there, and they do make me laugh every once in a while. At least they talk, somewhat, about local sports.

I too enjoy it. Love it when they give Sean crap. Every once in while I have an issue with the show, but for the most part it's the only show on KXNO I listen to regularly. Many may hate it but apparently they and the other shows get solid ratings.

I'm a 1%er as far as consuming local sports goes. I just don't listen to it. My other options? CF podcasts, podcasts of Murph and Andy, or just listening to an audiobook or something. It's an absolute waste of time.

That's fine. I'm speaking more in terms in what helps sell the brand and keeps ISU on top of mind to the most potential consumers in central Iowa. I do podcasts too....but the masses do not.

Wish they would have put Ken and Condon in that slot but Ken probably wasn’t having it.

Agreed. It is just very rare that I am listening from 10-12 so I almost always miss their show. I'm pretty confident I'd enjoy their show more than anything else on KXNO based on past experience.

Not a fan of the morning rush. When in DSM I have a 10 minute drive to work and I usually switch the dial because they talk sports maybe 30% of the time.

I wouldn't have an issue if the Morning Rush format was later in the day (aka Murph & Andy), but first thing in the morning I want a fresh take on the prior evenings sports. I do like the idea of a locally hosted morning show to get Iowa/ISU take.

Heather might be a nice person, but she shouldn't be on a sports show. She has a take on the Cubs and slightly Cyclones but that is it. Last time I was in DSM they were interviewing the Iowa Wild coach and Heather asked the coach about California weather during the team's road trip. Really, she has the guy up at 5:30am for an interview and asks about the weather! Obviously no show prep.

It's not a good show but I'd rather listen to ISU/iowa sports rather than LeBron on national radio. Omaha sports radio isn't an option.

I was really annoyed by Le Batard when he was first on but I've realized his schtick is better than the other ones that basically just stick to the teams with the biggest markets no matter how good or bad they are.

Well lade fricken da.

I listen to podcasts in the morning and 1460 on the way home in the afternoon. Or the afternoon shows on podcasts if I miss part of it.

Condon is terrible. He is a really annoying hawk fan.

At least he watches sporting events and seems to be interested in sports. Rather than the Travis and Heather brands show.

Edit: Now they have also incorporated the Sean brand which is an even worse brand than Travis and Heather.

Why are they talking about anything other than Iowa's Big 10 championship in women's basketball on Sunday and Iowa State playing for the Big 12 championship tonight?

These are big news items. And there are plenty of great story lines. Gustafson goes for 45, contender for national POY. Carlton has shot at leading all-time scorer for ISU. Iowa State recruits Joens from Iowa City.
Because women’s basketball doesn’t move the needle. They could talk about anything and get more interaction than if they were to spend 20 minutes on WBB

If your quality of life is based of a radio stations programming, you might want to reevaluate life.
Quality of life can increase in small increments.

I deleted twitter from my phone and that was a multiple increment improvement. Like 10 Morning Rushes.

I said I listen when Iowa loses. You don't want me to stop. :)

It was just an observation. They are bad.

Good point. I take it back :)

I don't have a problem with this show usually but I do take "time outs" every so often because they can be annoying but that is just about every show and personality for me.

The Morning Rush is appointment radio for me. I listen to it when I'm in town and on the road. This combo is much better than Deace and Miller, Travis and Tim, Ken and whoever, etc. I can get sports anywhere, any time of day. I appreciate TMR offering something different and unpredictable.
