I'm nervous about Wisconsin taking the second Des Moines spot from us and sending us to Hartford or San Jose... We'll find out Saturday morning at 11:30 when the committee announces their top 16

Wisconsin is going to drop 2-3 games yet. If we take care of business and win the league I think we are lock for a 3 seed in DSM. It's also worth noting that the committee will be using other metrics along with the Net rankings. Saturday's reveal will tell us a lot.

I think its a huge longshot to get Des Moines unless we move ahead of those Big 10 teams and Kansas. I think its likely we get Michigan/Michigan St/Purdue as a 2 seed and Kentucky since Des Moines is the closest for Kentucky.

Probably

Maybe I am missing something, but there isn't a guarantee DSM would get a 2/15 & 7/10 matchup is there? Couldn't DSM very well end up with a 3/14 & 6/11 bracket which would fit us fine if we ended up being seeded that way?

Basically am I correct when stating that there is no guarantee as to what seeds or even regions will get placed in DSM?

Yeah, you're right, I was trying to find that map that another poster made showing the distances between sites.

I think its extremely likely we get a Big 10 team in Des Moines. If we got a 3 seed and so did Wisconsin and Purdue would they give us preference over those teams? I just wasn't sure how that works with teams on the same seed line. Or would we have to be a 2 just to feel safe?

I'm biased but I would think that if they're smart they would put us in Des Moines if they had to choose between UW, Purdue, and ISU. Because $$$

No, you're right its no guarantee. But if look you look at the computer projections there is a logjam of teams on that 2 and 3 seed line from the midwest. They are going to give geographical preference to all those teams and Des Moines and Columbus are really the only options for them.

I think if we somehow got up to a 2 seed we would most definitely be in Des Moines, as a 3 or 4 I could see us getting screwed over.

Kansas should be going to Tulsa, not Des Moines

I've seen this a lot before, but is it really true? Tickets are already sold out, so it's scalpers who would be getting the benefit of high ticket prices, and not the NCAA. Most ISU fans that would be attending have places to stay in the area, so hotels wouldn't be getting as much of a benefit as from a well-traveling fan base not from Iowa. I *suppose* there might be a knock-on effect for restaurants/bars in the area and from concessions in the arena, but would it be noticeably different if it were ISU instead of Wisconsin or Purdue? I don't know. It's the same reason why hotels, restaurants, bars, etc. in KC like it when ISU makes the final of the Big 12 tourney, even more than when KU does.

That said, I don't know the answers and am mainly playing devil's advocate. Selfishly, of course, I definitely hope the Cyclones end up in Des Moines!

That's true. Who knows. Just win the Big 12 and we won't have to worry lol.

NBC Sports latest Bracketology has ISU as a 5 in San Jose. (Iowa also traveling as a 5 in Salt Lake City)

6 Virginia Tech
11 Oklahoma

3 Marquette
13 VERMONT

7 Auburn
10 Syracuse

2 Mich St.
15 Lyola-Chi

Completely forgot about Marquette, they could end up being an issue also, although I think they will lose to Villanova at least a couple more times. If Villanova could step up to the 3 line and take Hartford that would help some of the midwest teams.

This is really a bad year to be trying get a home court advantage if you are a midwest team.

I am going to root for Marquette because if Nova loses, we are in prime position to jump them in the rankings.

If Baylor loses to Texas and then beats K-State at home on Saturday, that would be huge. That would put us in a 3-way tie for first.

FYI - We'd be a half game up on Baylor and KSU, if we win vs. TCU and Baylor beats KSU.

This projection puts Wisconsin ahead of us right now...

This one looks more like it would put us in Des Moines...

I wonder how they’ll handle KU given they’re not the same team without Doke. If ISU finishes a couple games ahead of them in the Big 12, they should be behind ISU in seeding imo. And either way, going to Tulsa if they are to get a favorable location.

I think we rightfully detect Kansas is kind of rickety this season. They are still a very good basketball team, but maybe the weakest squad of the Self era right now.

They are likely to win-out at home, though.

That will put them in the 11-13 range for wins in the Big 12.

That will still be a Top 16 seed.

Back in early January, there was feeling within the Big 12 that Iowa State (18-5) had the most talent in the league. You look up now and it's not even arguable. From Marial Shayok to Lindell Wigginton to Cam Lard to Talen Horton-Tucker to Tyrese Haliburton, Steve Prohm's done a tremendous job building out a very fun roster. The Cyclones are Final Four contenders a season after finishing last in the Big 12.
