Good call, throw out any games you weren't able to observe. Point given. I'm not saying he's playing perfectly but to somehow construe him as playing selfishly is a bit out there. Every team has to have guys that "play selfishly" from time-to-time.

I never said he was playing selfishly. I said there have been times in the last few games where he's showing signs of being selfish.

Have you ever played basketball before? Some nights your shots just wont go down no matter how hard you are trying. When that happens its best to work on other aspects of your game, not keep forcing 17 shots up and hoping for the best.

I’m not saying he shouldn’t get a lot of minutes, but the other three have better all-around games. He’ll often be the best scorer on the court, or at least take the most shots, but that’s not synonymous with best player.

Deep.

i wonder if we ditch the ball screen by jacobsen - with LW ,THT, Babb those guys don't need a screen to beat their guy. put jake in the corner and open things up for drives to the basket?

Shayok played "me ball" a lot last night. Make the extra pass, get a better look.

Stats from last night
FG
4-17 .235

3 pt
3-11 .273

Shayok took by FAR the most shots last night

I'm fine with the Big XII's leading scorer taking a bunch of open shots. He hits just 3-4 of those shots that he has hit all year and no one is whining about him playing "me ball". Hindsight is so easy.

I agree with that. I disagree he's been selfish lately though

My whole take is that I wish he would run our offense more and quit trying to force shots, THT does the same thing. If they would have some patience and let the game come to them they will still get theirs every night.

If he's hot then fine, keep shooting, but when hes obviously not like last night he needs to figure out other ways to be effective.

The last few games he played great though so your point makes zero sense

Really? As others have stated, he had great looks on a lot of the shots he took and just missed more than usual. I can't believe how some people are so quick to react to one game's worth of shooting from someone, geez.
Better go rewatch the Iowa game to refresh your memory.

Good call, I'll just watch the Iowa and Ok. St. games on repeat over and over and that will give me a great idea of how he typically plays and shoots. I'm done, let's go beat Kansas, hopefully MS won't doom us with his selfish play and constant chucking up of wide open shots.

Agree, we already tend to have that in Wigginton and THT. Having three guys do that would be suboptimal, but fortunately Shayok has been effective and effective thus far outside a game or two.

No he hasnt, he looked terrible last night and against Iowa also. He looked great those other games because it was horrible competition.

The last few games doesn't include Iowa. Yes he looked great those other games which is my point

I think we have enough of a sample size of Shayok at both Iowa State and Virginia to know that he can and will play well against high level competition. Multiple sets last were ran for Shayok to take an open 3. If you get the shot that they play was design for then you can't pass it up. If you are doing then Shayok might as well be on the bench.

And I thought I was a cranky old *******.

By this logic we can't judge anyone's talent on anything this year other than those 2 games. I'll anxiously await the 3rd opportunity this Saturday!

Im not judging his talent, I already said he's a stud. Im simply pointing out that there are times where he needs to pass the ball more and run our offense, its as simple as that.

Actually you pointed out he's been selfish the last few games which is untrue. You should have said he played poorly last night and against your Hawkeyes and people wouldn't be arguing with you

My reply was to your comment that inferred that last night was the only time MS was off. I quickly pointed out another example. FYI I definitely have seen him hunt for his shot in multiple games, not sure if it is because he is selfish or if he thinks he needs to do that as 5th year player providing leadership?

When? When he has a good look but isn't 100% sure he'll make it? If he had taken a ton of bad shots last night I might agree with you but for the most part his shot selection was fine. They just weren't falling.

No I didnt, I said he's showing signs of selfish play, like not running our offense, not passing when he should, driving while the other 4 guys are standing around. I just want him to play smarter, he's not going to continue to get as good of looks when we play better defensive teams like Tech and West Virginia.
