Looks like Bryant should be back in. I was looking through the roster to try and see who would get sent back before I realized September starts Saturday, so Im assuming they will wait to activate him until then. "Kris Bryant a September call up" is not something I thought I would ever see.

Hamels is given $6 million from the Rangers if the Cubs opt out of his contract. Cubs are on the hook for $20 million next year if they opt in.

So, if you’re the Cubs, do you make a deal with Hamels that he will be given his $6 million from the Rangers and have him sign back with the Cubs for $15 million to save the Cubs $5 million and give Hamels an extra million?

Or do you opt out and offer an extension with smaller numbers?

Cubs are expected to go over the luxury cap anyway, so should they opt in on his deal, it makes it more like “f it” to go get Harper or Machado

I think Hamels will be back after an opt out. I think they'll give him 2 yrs and $30 million plus the $6 Million from the Rangers and he comes out $16 Million ahead.

I think the Cubs will be all in on Harper as well. There are 3 years left in the window and paying the luxury tax isn't going to stop them with all of Wrigleyville basically printing money at this point.

******* Central, am I right?

Cubs are 8-2 in last 10, and have only gained a game on both the Cardinals and Brewers in the stretch (both 7-3).

Cardinals and Brewers have the 2nd and 3rd best records in the NL, while being 4.5 and 5 games back, respectively.

It's got to be frustrating for them too, though. They're running out of time.

2015 was probably worse. Cardinals won 100 games, Pirates won 98 and the Cubs won 97.

You know it’s tough when you win 98 games and end up in the one game wild card.

To make that even WORSE, those three teams were the top three records in the MLB. All in the same division
And had to duke it out amongst each other for one spot in the NLCS. At the time, I was mad that the wild card winner had to take on the Cardinals, and not a team with a worse record, but in hindsight, it was sweet beating the Cardinals in the playoffs.

Not that I question the effort of this team but these 1 run games in August are frustrating. This pretty much sums up how I feel when it comes to this offense:
