Not sure what to make of Kim's issues starting at the bank when looking at the models, then going to the courthouse secretly and finally during the letter reading. Is she just overwhelmed by the amount of work the bank is going to be giving her and she realized that she is going to have to focus and separate from Jimmy?

Also, do you think what Jimmy read is actually what was written or did Jimmy just improvise because it was actually bad towards him. Or was that the actual letter but it was written a long time ago.
Maybe Kim wrote the letter

To the first point, I think overwhelmed by the prospect of what she'll need to do to keep up, which probably foreshadows her separation from Jimmy.

Regarding the latter, there a couple things that come to mind, but just my opinion: I think it was legit, and served as a reminder of how far he has fallen from the potential that he had (which would be why Kim was upset by it).

I think you're correct on both counts.

Your theory also occurred to me, but I couldn't square it in my mind with the anachronistic tone of the letter. If Kim was going to write it, I think she'd have made it much more relevant to recent events (maybe balance the tone by noting the negative parts of their relationship, but also thanking Jimmy for what he had done for him).

I almost got the feeling that Kim was concerned there was something illegal going on with Mesa Verde expanding so fast. Probably more likely she was just feeling overwhelmed, as already mentioned though.

BB and BCS are two of my favorites ever. So many great actors and terrific story lines going on all at one. Who knew Albuquerque, NM could be so interesting?

I remember that chemist from BB. I think we are right on the cusp of intertwining. Except Jiimy had a hot business when he hits B.B.
Right, Gale Bedeker (sp?) as was mentioned. Recall in BB that Gus' story to the DEA was that his connection to Gale was as a scholarship recipient. We are seeing the early dealings of how Gus is establishing his own meth empire north of the border - production, distribution, the whole works. All to eventually screw the cartel.

We know from BB what Gus' long game is, I was just trying to recall if we know how the cartel became fractured in the first place, but I guess Gilligan hasn't revealed that to us yet. (Maybe Hector Salamanca was just Don Eladio's extension into the US. But then why is Bolsa now coordinating shipments across the border with Gus, and why is Gus' crew the supplier to Hector's crew??)

I believe at the end of the day it will all be a result of Gus' master plan.

I recently finished Breaking Bad, and I loved it, but I also found it hard to watch in many places.

So far I am finding Saul even tougher to watch.

And yet, I am watching...

I don't believe that we know the history of the rift between Don Eladio and the Salamancas. My guess is that Gus' plan originally when he took over all transport from Mexico was to try to cut the Salamancas out by getting Hector angry enough to defy the Don. Nacho messed with that, so he did an audible, and now his plan is to cut off that transport and make it look like it wasn't his fault (which he would have done eventually, as he already looked at the laundry). Then he can just casually mention that he has people right here in the US who can make it here and save the transportation issues - what luck, and an even bigger part of the cut for him. I'm going to guess that Nacho changing alliances will not help with the rift between Hector and Gus, and I think that Gus is going to sour Hector's relationship with the Don slowly and using Hector's anger and pride against him (esp since now he can't talk). Short term, I think Gus will have whoever is making the crappy meth step in as the US supplier, and then will eventually get Gale involved.

I think Kim's reaction to the models was concern at the size of the project for her. I think she went to the courthouse either to try and slow their roll somehow, or to talk to someone into coming into practice w/her. A potential outcome of this may be that enrages Jimmy that she's bringing in a partner, and drives a wedge between them.

I think the letter was from Chuck in the past, and I think that Kim was weeping for who both Chuck and Jimmy were back then, and how far they and their relationship fell, and the tragic outcome for Chuck.

Reading this thread makes me realize how many details I do not connect watching this show. BCS is a very slow burning show. The opening scene on the recent episode was almost 8 minutes I believe, we watch gun fire at the car for at least 30 seconds.

Excellent take, Angie - really enjoy your insights.

The slow movement is one of my criticisms but I can get passed it because of the content

I am confused by one aspect. What happened to Francesca, the receptionist? We know she ends up with Jimmy in BB. Now we have a new Viola as Kim's paralegal. Is Francesca still around? Obviously, Francesca cannot do the legal work that a Viola could, but just seems like a strange break in continuity, something that has been a huge plus in this series.

Or maybe introducing Viola begins the path of Jimmy and Kim drifting apart as she builds a legit legal practice and he becomes Saul.

The slowness drives my wife crazy but she never got into BB. I actually enjoy the slowness now that I expect it. Its completely opposite of pretty much anything else so I find it to be refreshing.

I'm really enjoying yours, as well! I love the growing overlap in the in-universe, and it's fun to see everyone's takes on it. I watched the episode last night, and was instantly chuckling at the salesman in his offering a pizza "sliced" - Badger would not be impressed. ;)

My take is that Francesca is just back at the DMV until Jimmy becomes Saul. I don't think Kim needed a receptionist so much, as she's not got a constantly rotating list of clients like Jimmy did. She more needs someone to help her w/the legal work than the phone and greeting clients. But I could be wrong!

The actress who plays Viola has been around a while - she was on Gilmore Girls from the beginning, is on 13 Reasons Why off-and-on in a small recurring role, and so I'm sure they were glad to get her for BCS. I wonder if she's going to be short-lived - looking at her IMDB page, it looks like she's also working on a new show that is just in pre-production, so I'd guess that would limit her availability?
