Just found out that I am being kicked off my project in 3 weeks because of budget. There was just me and another person in the role for the project. Sucks because this was for a new product and involved going around Europe and Asia talking about it.

Hate to be cynical but the other person in my role just recently joined and is dating the project manager. Budget came in and they could only choose one of us. I didn't exactly have a leg up I guess.

It really sucks extra hard because they were going to buy my hours for 6 months which would've put me in a great position for my yearly quota. Now July and August are our slowest months and I don't have a project lined up.

**** me up. I'm headed to the bar

dating the PM on the project? That seems like all sorts of conflicts of interest.

I agree and couples that work at my company have to do another different training (if they told the company). We don't ban it or anything but we make sure there's "no bias".

It's not serious enough to fight too too hard but I agree that there was some unconscious bias at the very least. It's so hard to prove plus I would be going against a woman in IT and which sets you at a disadvantage whether they will openly day it or not. Plus it would barely be worth it if I won and got back on the project. This product isn't like a multi billion or million product. So I'll help if asked and just move on. I've decided it's just not worth it to fight too hard.

yeah, knowing when to pick your battles is good. It's just unfortunate because even if the other person was more qualified, a lot of this is about avoiding the appearance of bias and that's not possible here. You would think higher ups would not want a couple in a position like this (working closely together and in position to give opportunities to each other). It just sounds like a headache in the making for the higher up manager.

Waded through...227?...messages. Been stupid busy between the two jobs. Although the nice paycheck can't be really argued. Ehhh....yeah it can. The state of my apartment shows it.

Today was the last we had an employee discount at the store, so purchased some things. Was talking to a coworker who works in the mens department, who asked me "Did you see the Iowa State running pants on clearance?" She walked me over to the clearance rack to show them to me. They're sweatpants, no elastic on the ankle (bonus) but they're freaking long! I held them up to my natural waist, and they pooled on the ground. I tried them on, and if I wear the waistband about an inch above my bellybutton, the pants hem just curls around my heel. Bought them for $8 and change.

The rain has done a number on scheduling for the teams we cover. Husband has been scrambling all week to make sure everyone is where they're supposed to be and when. Plus, all of husband's games this week have been out-of-town.

We have an eighth grader starting for "our" Sb at catcher. Doing fairly well. They're in CR for a tourney...beat the #3 team in game 1 6-1. Game 2 just went top of the 4th. Tomorrow it's on to the Solon tourney.

Appropos to nothing, I'm so glad the softball team doesn't do organized chants and the like from the dugout like other teams. Just cheering at good offensive and defensive plays, and one or two voices of encouragement to the pitcher or the batter, depending on the half of the inning.

That is a recipe for disaster for your company. Anyone who is in the chain of command of their SO or has influence over their work has a conflict of interest. The chances of getting sued by someone not as forgiving as you are real.

If we get a couple more RTTers to hire my lawn mowing and snow removal (probably need leaf raking to catch spring and fall), I could probably move my offer to $20/week.
I'm oh so tempted to ask your going rate for raking a lawn, before telling you we live on three acres of trees... :D

Not suggesting it is wrong, I have always just heard that phrase as a euphemism for fight. I haven't really played softball, though and never pitched or caught the very short time I played baseball.
In the softball world, it is a throw down. Usually describes the throw from the catcher to 2nd (which is supposed to be covers by SS on a typical steal) but can also be used when a catcher throws down to 1st or 3rd to pick off a runner. I don’t watch hockey and obviously we are a softball family so I knew just what BC was talking about. :)

I was looking at QuickStats on our team and our catcher has had 25 throw down attempts (not sure if they count all stealing attempts or just 2B attempts) and she has gotten 3 of those out. Usually it is because the fielder is not in position to catch even if the throw is right there. Frustrating, but we keep telling her to just keep doing what she is doing. Last game the runners were telegraphing every steal and inevitably the pitcher would put it in the dirt so she had no chance to catch and throw.

Our coaches make our second baseman fight the runner on the throw with SS backing up.

If I get Erik for 20/week, I could probably do it for an RTT rate of $20. You could feed him if you wish. He hasn’t PMd me to accept. All contingent on him giving the thumbs up.

I don't want to sound snooty but they weren't more qualified. They are 1 year out of college and I helped them on every one of their deliverables. It'll be interesting to see what happens in a month or two with that project.

I don't disagree but my company is top 5 largest in the world by market cap. If this policy works for them 75% of the time even if I was more of an ******* about it, it's worth it to them to not deal with it. There are a ton of relationships in my org. I personally don't date people I work with but it's definitely not uncommon at all

Grabbed a few drinks with @BoxsterCy. His friend came and brought his cute Vietnamese girlfriend. It took effort, but I didn’t hit on her. Y’all should be proud of me. I did a random act of kindness.

I was more "where did all the cars go" when I went to the nearly empty parking lot that I had to lurk in earlier to even find a parking space. o_O

And just checked the weather forecast. June can still EABOD.

Set up an alumni bike ride for Sunday. Weather forecast had been bouncing back and forth between sunny and sunny with slight/20% chance of rain. Just looked and it is now 50% showers and thunderstorms. **** you June!
