NBA: Summer 2018 Off Season Thread

I have no idea what the Griz can do to try and make this a quicker turn around than what it is set up to be. They shot themselves in the foot last season firing Fizdale, choosing a tail-end-of-his-career Gasol over him. Trading back and getting some more picks may be the best play at this point.

It depends on who is there at four. If Doncic or Bagley slip there then that's a steep price to pay just to get out from under the Parsons deal. If that's the case I'd almost rather hold on to Parsons for one more year and then try to move him next year when it becomes an expiring contract. Giving up the fourth pick to get rid of Parsons seems like throwing good money after bad.

I think they're still trying to win next year rather than start rebuilding. If they wanted to start rebuilding they'd keep the pick along with Parson's contract. There are only 2 years left on his contract, and in a rebuild, they would be off of his contract by the time they were good again. It makes sense to trade him with the pick if want to sign a free agent or two to try to win next year.

That may be the case, but is that smart? What is their ceiling if they try to win next year?

It's probably not the smartest move if the goal is winning a championship, but they could probably give their fans a couple more good years with the Conley/Gasol core. I don't think totally tanking would work as well in a market the size of Memphis just because of how much fan support they could lose.

Memphis Owner is on record that he expects 50 wins next year. Whether or not that is realistic (not IMO) doesn't matter to the GM who to keep his job is mandated to win now. Some owners just want there team to compete for the 7-8 seed and sell tix.

Parsons deal was a huge risk the day it was signed and to me trying to fix it years later is extremely short sighted but I would be curious to see the deal they could get if it happened.
For instance rumor is that teams are looking at Bamba at 4. If they could trade down to 7-10, get rid of Parsons and still get Young or Porter that would be a win.

I saw the Nuggs were one of 7 teams with interest in moving up to #4. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but Memphis would get one of Jamal Murray or Gary Harris which makes a lot of sense for them if they're trying to win now.

WHERE IS THE CHAOS
Well let's get started with this...

Already rumored to be interested in Golden State. Not a bad fit on the court, terrible fit in literally every locker room but winning could help that. Just set screens, rebound, catch lobs and defend the paint. The 2018-2019 Warriors could roll with a starting five of:

Steph
Klay
KD
Draymond
DHoward

I'm sure he's interested in Golden State, just like every other player in the league. But I'd be very surprised if they had any interest in bringing him in. Locker room poison everywhere he's been for the last 7 years.

I believe Shams on this one.

Me too. There's just not much they can put on the table for an offer until they know for sure who they have coming in free agency. I would guess the conversation was more about what kind of haul the Spurs are expecting. It's virtually impossible to get equal value for Kawhi, but I'll bet the Spurs are content to sit back and let things play out for a bit to get the very best possible deal.

Now, if the Kings came calling with the second overall pick and Bogdanovich? That in and of itself isn't enough but it certainly gets a conversation started.

Why would the Kings give up #2 for a guy who's going to leave them next summer? I mean the Kings are a freaking terrible management staff but that would be awful. That would be worse than what the Thunder did with PG13.

It would be an idiotic move by the Kings. Which makes it totally plausible.

The Bleacher Report/Fansided team pages are endlessly entertaining on draft day. One of the Pacers sites floats the idea of Indy dealing Al Jefferson and the 23rd pick to the Sixers for Markelle Fultz. Not based on any report or anything, just throwing **** at the wall.
