NBA: Summer 2018 Off Season Thread

Agreed. I think Thompson and Green are both very good players who are slightly overvalued around the league because of the system they play in. I just think that if/when the Warriors get to the point where they can't afford to keep both, it would be easier to replace Thompson than it would be to replace Green.
Completely agree. Not to knock Draymonds work ethic (even if I get annoyed more often than not watching him jaw when he's missed his last 4 threes and then gets one deflection on defense, it is who he is) or to knock Klay's shooting ability. But they would not be as respected/highly regarded of players if they didn't come into the Warriors system at the time they did. Still, props to them for maximizing their opportunity, I just think they will be seen as somewhat regressing wherever they go.

I saw that Draymond is looking for a max contract, I don’t think he’s worth that. He wont be nearly the same player when he’s off the warriors. I wouldn’t be surprised if klay leaves he has to be tried of being the 3rd option.
Draymond will get a max contract from someone because he'll be a 3-4 champ available on the market when he's ~30. I think he's absolutely overrated but most NBA GMs are dumb. See Luol Deng, Ryan Anderson, etc's contracts. Draymond looks really good on the Warriors because of his supporting cast. He is very replaceable in GS. Put him on a team like Phoenix, Detroit, Orlando and he won't add wins to that team.

Klay on the other hand would fit into literally every team in the NBA. Everyone is going to offer him the max contract.

Steph was an affordable contract when he was winning his MVPs. Durant was an affordable contract his first two years in GS. Now, will Draymond and Klay follow suit and take pay cuts to keep winning?

Any predictions on the first 7 picks of the draft?
1- Suns Ayton
2- Kings Bagley (but if they were smart Doncic)
3- Hawks- Porter Jr (he's an injury risk but if he pans out he's a stud to build upon)
4- Grizz- Doncic
5- Mavs- Bamba
6- Orlando- Young
7- Bulls- Jackson Jr (I personally dont get the hype but scouts say hes a stud)

Passed over Sexton and Wendell Carter, Bulls could pull the trigger on Sexton if they think Dunn isnt the answer at pg. Not a fan of Carter, big guys need to be super athletic to be of use anymore and I dont think he's that. Steal of the draft to me will be Mikal Bridges, if he's on the right team he's a stud in the nba.

You don't think Doncic will be top 7??
I think it will be
1 Suns Ayton
2 Kings Doncic
3 Hawks Jackson
4 Grizzles Bagley
5 Mavs Bamba
6 Magic Young
7 Bulls Porter
8 Cavs Carter

ha yeah I caught that about a minute after I first posted it, Doncic is going to be a great player to me Id have trouble passing on him for the first pick even. But teams over think things and think athletic talent first for the most part. Bagley falling to four would be interesting. Its going to be an interesting draft, would imagine 1 or 2 lottery trades.

People are really selling Draymond short. The guy is the key to the Warrior's defense which has not coincidentally been one of the best in the league each year since he shows up. He's not a guy who looks better just because he's in that system, he's the guy who makes the system work. There are only a handful of guys who can hold their own defensively against anyone in the league. He also has the ability to handle the ball and make plays offensively and provide some floor spacing, even though he has been down from 3 the last couple of seasons. There's not a lot of guys who can check all those boxes.

Trades have begun!

Remember when he was really good? Now he's on a different team every year.

Nets are taking Dwight as an expiring contract for two second rounders and getting rid of Mozgov (2 years left on his big contract). Great deal for the Nets, Howard at least can play in a rotation this year and then the Nets can let him go and have Max Cap space next year.
I have no idea why Charlotte made this move other than Kubceck is their new GM and signed Mozgov to that contract with the Lakers and must like him?

Edit: Guess the move gets the Hornets out of the Luxury Tax this year but does add 16+ the year after. Steep price to get rid of DH even if he is a locker room cancer.

1. PHX - Ayton
2. SAC - Doncic
3. ATL - Jackson Jr.
4. MEM - Bagley
5. DAL - Bamba
6. ORL - Porter
7. CHI - Young
8. CLE - Mikal Bridges
9. NY - Carter Jr. (I badly want to give them Collin Sexton here because I think the MSG crowd would absolutely love him, but Carter gives them an interior defender to protect Porzingis).
10. PHI - Miles Bridges. Plug and play contributor for a team that needs a glue guy, not another star.

I think there are going to be some trades in the top ten, with Chicago and Cleveland being the most likely to move down. Chicago especially if the Magic instead take Young and Porter Jr is the highest rated player left on the board. To me he's undraftable due to his back issues. Let someone else take that risk.

Very easy to make plays when you have 3 of the top 10 shooters of all time. He’s a good defender but he’s limited on offense

True. I think he's somewhat limited offensively but he's still compentent. But he won't kill you on offense and he can still do all those things on defense. Without him that lineup of death or Hamptons Five or whatever you want to call it is getting run off the floor because he's the one covering up everything on the defensive side. He's the most complete defensive player in the league. There aren't more than a handful of guys who can guard multiple positions on any given possession and not have to be hidden on offense.

Maybe he'll be Philly's "sit the rookie for a year pick" (Embiid, Simmons, Fultz) at ten.

Funny but yeah, maybe. Porter is a weird one because it's not totally implausible that he goes second overall - God knows what Vlade and the Kings will do - or he could fall into the teens due to medical red flags and that weird quote the other day where he compared himself favorably to T-Mac, KD, and Giannis. Biggest risk in the draft IMO. Which probably means that Danny Ainge will trade up to get him and in two years he'll be an All-Star.
