Yard Care for Dummies

I have it moving into my yard due to neighbors that do nothing to their lawn. I've kept it in check the last few years so it hasn't spread any further than it initially did.
I'm
My yard is so much greener than the neighbors' yards. Of course, its full of dandelions and vioket looking weeds, but at least its green!
Whether it's creeping Charlie or violets use triclopyr with a surfactant. Hit it twice.

I have something similar. Earle May called it purple ivy and said to use their Super Brush and Weed Killer on it. Did three applications last year, and it killed some, but it keeps coming back. It's creeping into my neighbor's yards too.

Hit it in the fall again. Either that or get a big blow torch and kill it with fire!

Same thing we did at my grandparents house. It worked but took at least 3-4 treatments over at least a year. FYI it basically chokes out the grass so once you are successful at killing it there will just be dirt left so once the chemicals are completely gone you will need to reseed.

Had that at my last house - neighbors decided to let their 12 year old son manage their lawn care (i.e. mowed every other week...) so it overtook my yard in 2 seasons. Treated it multiple times and only offered short term fix, and just grew back anyway.

This stuff will grow in sunny and very fertile soil, at will. I have live in the same home for 20 years. I still have it. I pull by hand now. I mulch and I believe that makes it worse, the ground up ground ivy will take root and spread. Trimec once a week from mid-late September until the first heavy frost. I can control it but I cant beat it. I found my first one the other day, it runs a vine right on top of the soil underneath the grass canopy and shoots down roots from the vine so you can cut it and you in effect have made many more plants. By carefully pulling the vines I have controlled it very well. I have killed off a 5' x5' section, left it dead for 9 months and then reseeded it came back. It is kind of like living next to a neighbor that owns a dog you dont like.

I have some bare spots in my yard. Is it too late in the year to try to do patch treatment? (seed / seed starter mix)? (June 8th)

I'm not a lawn expert and do not play one on TV, but from what I understand it's always easiest to seed in the fall if you can live with the bare spots until then.

You can do it now, it just takes a lot of effort to ensure the seeded areas don't dry out, and once it does start growing that you continue to water it enough so it doesn't die out in the early stages over the summer. Depending on the variety it may take a full month or two just to sprout up (kentucky blue grass)

I've got a lot of little brown mushrooms popping up in my yard (it's otherwise very lush and nice). The ones that have heads about as big around as a nickle.

Any suggestions for getting them gone? We pick them, but new ones just grow back.

A lot of rain/moisture is getting them going. A basic chemical (24D) will hit them and not harm your lawn.

Straight 24d won’t touch mushrooms. You’ll need a fungicide but they’ll probably still come back unless you take care of the reason they’re popping up in the first place. They really aren’t bad for your lawn though. They help break down OM and are part of the reason your lawn is as lush at it is.

I've rededicated myself to clearing up the broadleafs in my lawn this year after slacking off the last couple. My only problem is the violets that encroach from a rental property. I'm using Fertilome Weed Free Zone and a surfactant that seems to take care of the random plants but where they're the thickest I'm basically only keeping them from spreading. Earlier this spring I did two treatments. The edges of the leaves do turn brown but I'm not sure if it's actually killing them and then new violets are coming up or if the affected ones are recovering. Any advice on violets would be much appreciated.
