Sheds some more light on as to why the 18th was so quiet for such a big moment. Sorry if posted already.

Also ballsy by golf.com to post this right after he won. Didn't give the golf play much time before diving into this.
Thanks for posting this. I thought it was weird how he wasn't getting much for cheers but I didn't know why either. I figured it was just a pro-Rory/Jordan/Rickie crowd but now I get it.

Hopefully people hate him for cheating in college, not for being a college kid with a fake ID or a guy who is a recluse.

Good post. I agree with most of it.

I disagree with removing the trees on #11. It's a terrifying hole, and it's supposed to be. It's a long hole requiring a precision tee shot with driver. 13, 14, 15 and 16 are among the easiest holes out there. Make them cry before feasting.

Spieth and Greller are a true team. People discount the affect caddies have on players. I'm not a big Spieth fan, but they can get it done when it matters.

Justin Thomas is a curious bird. It's easy to be in a good mood when you're winning, and he showed up on the scene fast (similar to Spieth). We'll see if he can maintain likability when he's finishing in 20th every tournament.

In my opinion, Rory's arms were just a bit too fast for the rest of his body today. He missed EVERYTHING right for 11 or 12 holes - driver, irons and putter. His tempo was just a wreck. It wouldn't have taken much for him to shoot a 68.

On 11- That's not how it was ever designed to play. Those trees, with half the pin positions, make everyone basically lay up. If you remove them, You allow people to take a line further right and attack the flag with their second with birdie being well in play but 6 in play as well. As it stands, you funnel everyone into a bad angle to the hole so no one makes birdie.

Here's an issue. On Friday, hardly anyone hit it inside of Tiger and Bubba. Both were blocked out by trees. This happened because they hit great shots but they also had great angle while people in the fairway had no angle and had to play way out to the right to avoid water. The hole just isn't any good.

On Rory-I think his swing has gotten too flat.

I find the players quotes about him most interesting. Basically saying he's not a bad dude, he's just kind of a weird dude. I think most of these guys like to compete but realize at the end of the day they are being paid millions of dollars to travel the world and play golf. Win or lose, you've got a pretty sweet gig. But Reed doesn't seem to follow that same convention, and I can't tell if I like that or dislike that about him.

Regarding the family stuff, you'd have to think there is more to it than that. The author added the "expressed their disapproval for getting married at such a young age" line in their, but I imagine it could have been much more volatile than that. I would also imagine his folks probably pushed him pretty hard as a kid. Who knows. It can't imagine anything being bad enough to entirely estrange yourself from your family, but I imagine there is also another side to that story.

His parents probably had something to say about her being an "opportunist" to put it mildly.

I realize that. I'd tell them to get bent when they sent me stuff that looks like that bottom left shirt of Sergios. They need to dress those guys like adults.

I don't see anything wrong with that shirt. They are being paid quite a bit of money to wear the companies stuff, so just wear the damn things, who cares.

There are plenty of rumors surrounding Reed and his family - some say he was abused mentally and physically as a kid.

Who knows - no one close enough to the situation seems to want to talk about it. He hardly even plays practice rounds with other players. He’s a loner and has been since he was a kid.

That was not a bad performance by Tiger at all considering where he's been the last couple of years

Agree. If you would have told people he'd play 6 events, make five cuts, have a top-25, three top-15s with two being top 5s, I think that would be considered pretty successful after not being healthy for 4 year and not really playing for 3.

Ricky epitomizes the "can't be too mad because I'm making millions to play golf" guy I mentioned in my prior post. Dude has made millions, has a nice roster of women he's dated, currently has a not-so-ugly girlfriend, will be competitive for years. I'm sure he wants to win as much as the next guy, but I appreciate that he is a good guy who realizes he has it pretty damn good.

That 69 was the first time he's broke 70 in a major in over 7 years.

The exact moment I became a HUGE Fowler fan. The dude just gets it.

He's got Allison Stokke now so he's ready for next time.

Wow, that article isn't flattering on Reed, seems a little indigenous to write it as it is written without much of any knowledge of Reed's reason for estranging himself from the family.

All I can tell you about the guys is he has guts and if I am a Ryder cup captain he is paired with Rory every time until Rory beats him.

You just sparked a thought in my head. Reed and Fowler are essentially polar opposites. Ricky is a great dude and a very good player who people would say should have won much, much more at this point. The knocks on Rickie aren't really of his doing (overhyped, overplayed, etc). Reed, on the other hand isn't liked, he's not marketable, however he's been able to win some very big events that people don't necessarily think he should win. That's not to mention the consistency of each guy.
