I kinda like this Reed guy. He exudes confidence when he hits, and has a little fire in him. I wish I could walk up to my putts and hit it.

The golf world goes flat.

Did I hear that Nike told Reed he couldn't wear red on Sunday?

Nike dictated that their guys (other than Tiger) wear pink today. It's all scripted ahead of time.

I'd tell them to go **** themselves. Nike is consistently putting out ridiculous stuff.

Good on Reed for pulling it out. He was just nails in huge moments.

I can't decide if Rory just didn't have it today or if he has some sort of issue when he isn't vaporizing everyone.

Spieth and Greller is the truth and I do mean Spieth AND Greller.

JTs attitude is going to cost him a bunch of tournaments even though he'll still win a lot.

Kudos to Ricky for showing up and putting a run on even though he didn't have his best stuff earlier.

Augusta needs to play firm and fast to max out the entertainment value. Soft Augusta is kind of meh. They also need to fix 7 and 11 eventually. Those trees on 11 need to be gone. They ruin the hole.

Phil had a bad week and Tiger has a way to go. He was just awful with his irons this week. Considering that, not all that bad.

Good post. I agree with most of it.

I disagree with removing the trees on #11. It's a terrifying hole, and it's supposed to be. It's a long hole requiring a precision tee shot with driver. 13, 14, 15 and 16 are among the easiest holes out there. Make them cry before feasting.

Spieth and Greller are a true team. People discount the affect caddies have on players. I'm not a big Spieth fan, but they can get it done when it matters.

Justin Thomas is a curious bird. It's easy to be in a good mood when you're winning, and he showed up on the scene fast (similar to Spieth). We'll see if he can maintain likability when he's finishing in 20th every tournament.

In my opinion, Rory's arms were just a bit too fast for the rest of his body today. He missed EVERYTHING right for 11 or 12 holes - driver, irons and putter. His tempo was just a wreck. It wouldn't have taken much for him to shoot a 68.

Sheds some more light on as to why the 18th was so quiet for such a big moment. Sorry if posted already.

Also ballsy by golf.com to post this right after he won. Didn't give the golf play much time before diving into this.

Definitely the quietest I've ever heard 18 while the winner is walking up the fairway. Rickie got a bigger cheer walking up 18. Rickie also got a bigger cheer making his birdie than Reed got for making his par to win.

Holy Crap:

"...Patrick and Justine wed in December 2012, when he was only 22. His parents had expressed misgivings about him getting married so young and urged him to slow down. The advice was not well received and Bill and Jeannette (and Hannah) were not invited to the wedding and Patrick cut off contact with his family..."

".... A friend of Bill and Jeannette's had extra tickets to the 2014 U.S. Open, so with some trepidation, they went to Pinehurst No. 2 and followed Patrick throughout the second round, hoping to perhaps reestablish contact and meet their granddaughter for the first time. Justine was also in the gallery, but no words were exchanged. Walking up the 18th hole, Bill, Jeannette and Hannah were surrounded by police officers. They ultimately were escorted off the grounds and had their tournament badges confiscated by a USGA official who, according to Jeannette, said he was acting on Justine's wishes. ..."

"... Justine wrote a Facebook post about her in-laws which included the line, "They are sick people and need help." Hannah responded with a long, anguished post of her own, writing, "I have sat back and watched the numerous and disgusting accusation his wife, mother-in-law and everyone now associated as his family have made. Patrick is not the same person he used to be. This is not a brother anymore, but a selfish, horrible stranger and it's heartbreaking … It is devastating seeing my parents hurt and suffer from what is being posted about them.""

Right? I understand there are always two sides to every story, but this guy sure sounds like a piece of you know what.

I find the players quotes about him most interesting. Basically saying he's not a bad dude, he's just kind of a weird dude. I think most of these guys like to compete but realize at the end of the day they are being paid millions of dollars to travel the world and play golf. Win or lose, you've got a pretty sweet gig. But Reed doesn't seem to follow that same convention, and I can't tell if I like that or dislike that about him.

Regarding the family stuff, you'd have to think there is more to it than that. The author added the "expressed their disapproval for getting married at such a young age" line in their, but I imagine it could have been much more volatile than that. I would also imagine his folks probably pushed him pretty hard as a kid. Who knows. It can't imagine anything being bad enough to entirely estrange yourself from your family, but I imagine there is also another side to that story.
