Official Fishing Thread...

Yes, it is. This was taken in a lake about 50 miles from the Hudson Bay in Manitoba.

I should probably do more trout fishing, living in Colorado, but I have intentionally held myself back from learning to fly fish because I know I'll like it too much. Get a few days ice fishing in every year, and do some spinner fishing when I go camping and get a chance.

That fish is actually only 12" long. But he used these

I have 2 ponds, both fully stocked (catfish, blue gill, crappie, bass, etc.) but unfortunately because of my racing I never have time to fish. There are some pretty big catfish in there (I've seen someone catch one that was 3 feet long). My wife is worried that because I never fish them they are going to become over populated.

So if anyone wants to fish sometime out by the Newton area, just let me know. The only fee is that I want some fillets to eat.

Catfish don't usually reproduce in farm ponds in Iowa. Or it's harder for them than other fish.

No reason not to fish for them or host the CF Summer Outing, though. ;)

Bump.

Anyone ever fish the little maquoketa near Durango just north of Dubuque?
Was there a few years ago but looking to wade for smallmouth in the coming weeks maybe.

FWIW had a few smallmouth chase feathers through the water last weekend. Forgot how strong/heavy they are vs. fishing for trout in the winter/early spring.

Hoping to go crappie/gill fishing this weekend, Robert Creek or Diamond Lake. Hopefully this warm weather gets them feisty.

Have a seasonal on Leech MN and am heading up over Memorial Day weekend to get it opened up and to check things out. Always get our limit of Northerns and plenty of Walleye and perch.

Kids caught me in a weak moment and we went fishing the other day. Realized immediately upon getting out there one of the poles I brought didn't work and within about 30 minutes the line on the other pole was tangled beyond repair. Love fishing.

The Big Creek spillway is infested with Drum if any of you guys are into that sort of thing. Just drag a 1/8th ounce jig with any plastic across the bottom and you should pickup a few. The occasional slab crappie can be caught also.

Bump...anyone in NEish Iowa know of the conditions of spots like the Maquoketa, Wapsi, etc? I'll be around this weekend and would like to check them out a bit.

Old thread bump.

All I can say is how disappointing the weather has been so far. I really want to get my kayak out on the water and do some fishing. I saw its supposed to be in the 70's on Thursday and Friday; might be a good time to get on the water.

I really wanted to get to Storm Lake this weekend, as they are hammering the pre-spawn Walleye, but bitched out because of how cold its been. Ugh

Just finished installing a new fish finder yesterday. I'm definitely ready for some spring weather to finally show up.
