Screw Flo and their pay to watch interviews of HS kids
No worries buf....mind sharing a but what was discussed? Was this a Flo pro interview? If so sorry for posting
I thought it was interesting when he was talking about David having a chance to face Nolf, Hidlay, Kemerer right away. Makes me wonder about his redshirt and if that is still the plan. I assume he will redshirt the beginning of the season, but if he goes to Midlands and proves he can be a top 4 guy...might be hard to keep it on (similar to Lee with Iowa this year)
I like Straw, but he couldn't qualify for Nationals this season. He needs to have a great off-season to be the kind of starter we want him to be.I wondered a like about that. But if Straw is 157, I don't see the need to pull his redshirt for next year. Does make it sound like he will be 157 next year and not 165.

I wouldn't have any issue with Carr starting right away if he can be a top 5 guy. We need some excitement infused into the program and if that is how we get it, I am all for it.
Anymore, the elite HS wrestlers are so highly developed that a redshirt "acclimation" year is no necessary in terms of skills. What's more, because wrestling has preset weight limits, they are also physically well adapted ... often already pushing the edge of their class. Its not like football, where a big boned lineman adds 20 pounds of muscle.
I want him to redshirt. Remember his dad wrestled right away and was injured and didn't place at Nationals. He then won 3 straight titles. He could have been the first 4 timer. We will never know.
We are a few years away from being in the top 5.
Has David ever wrestled Hidley, Jordan, Nolf, or Kemerer? If so.Results?
One benefit of redshirting is Nolf will be graduated after that year. David is going to be very good, but Nolf is on another level when healthy.

I would like to see him redshirt while we work to build a more competitive team, personally.
Side note: Saying "we have wrestler X" at this weight so we're good, when wrestler X didn't qualify for nationals, is hopefully a mindset we are far past in a couple of years!
I understand that Straw did not qualify. I just think Straw is going to make another leap forward next year. I like the way he wrestled towards the end of the season. We definitely have lots of weaker weights than 157 to address.
I said in an earlier post, no starter from this year is safe, not even Degen. Until we have AA returning, no weight is safe. Also nobody should be transferring out because they don't think they will start, because if they are afraid of a non NCAA qualifier, then we probably don't want them anyway.
