Talked about Nate Sr being the 11th of 16 Carr kids. Also talks about all the Uncles that were at the championship to watch David. Then Nate Jr talks about Lock Haven wrestling

I thought it was interesting when he was talking about David having a chance to face Nolf, Hidlay, Kemerer right away. Makes me wonder about his redshirt and if that is still the plan. I assume he will redshirt the beginning of the season, but if he goes to Midlands and proves he can be a top 4 guy...might be hard to keep it on (similar to Lee with Iowa this year)

I wondered a like about that. But if Straw is 157, I don't see the need to pull his redshirt for next year. Does make it sound like he will be 157 next year and not 165.

I like Straw, but he couldn't qualify for Nationals this season. He needs to have a great off-season to be the kind of starter we want him to be.

I wouldn't have any issue with Carr starting right away if he can be a top 5 guy. We need some excitement infused into the program and if that is how we get it, I am all for it.

I can understand that. I think Dresser has talked about redshirting Carr, since this team won't be battling for trophies yet. I hope we can maybe send Shapiro and Carr to Midlands and see how they do. I wish Coleman would have gone this year. Coleman was pretty dominate against lower division guys, but not many results against D1

I personally see a change happening in the sport (at the D1 level) and hope this staff gets on board - If a true freshman can really compete at the top level right away, I say let them compete. Granted it takes a special talent to do it (Lee and Yianni this year for example). Having a redshirt year in the back pocket in case of injury or really just flexibility (see Steiert at UNI this year) can be a very good thing. Also, I think you are also see starting to see some kids who have more success at the beginning of their college careers then at the end.

Anymore, the elite HS wrestlers are so highly developed that a redshirt "acclimation" year is no necessary in terms of skills. What's more, because wrestling has preset weight limits, they are also physically well adapted ... often already pushing the edge of their class. Its not like football, where a big boned lineman adds 20 pounds of muscle.

I want him to redshirt. Remember his dad wrestled right away and was injured and didn't place at Nationals. He then won 3 straight titles. He could have been the first 4 timer. We will never know.
We are a few years away from being in the top 5.
Has David ever wrestled Hidley, Jordan, Nolf, or Kemerer? If so.Results?

One benefit of redshirting is Nolf will be graduated after that year. David is going to be very good, but Nolf is on another level when healthy.

I would like to see him redshirt while we work to build a more competitive team, personally.

Side note: Saying "we have wrestler X" at this weight so we're good, when wrestler X didn't qualify for nationals, is hopefully a mindset we are far past in a couple of years!

I understand that Straw did not qualify. I just think Straw is going to make another leap forward next year. I like the way he wrestled towards the end of the season. We definitely have lots of weaker weights than 157 to address.

I said in an earlier post, no starter from this year is safe, not even Degen. Until we have AA returning, no weight is safe. Also nobody should be transferring out because they don't think they will start, because if they are afraid of a non NCAA qualifier, then we probably don't want them anyway.

I hope to see it too and look forward to seeing more competition in the room

Pretty sure Carr was smaller than all these guys when they were in HS. He wrestled Vince Turk a couple times when he was a Freshman.
