The “Push”

There are two people in the wrong in all of this, Nick Trankamp employee of Central DeWitt Community Schools and Travis Justice employee of KXNO.

Certainly not Pemsl for going hard after a rebound and ending up in the stands (hopefully his injury ends up not being serious) and none of the students standing in the first row.
And JorBo. Don't forget about JorBo.

Uh, Hassel with the "fail". The game was sponsored by the Iowa Corn Growers Association. All the glow-sticks said "Iowa Corn" on them. Perhaps you went to the east coast and forgot that Iowa is not ashamed to be an agricultural state, but we haven't.

This. What's wrong with cornfields? Why do we care what anyone thinks? American Needs Farmers.

Ah, memories... That was the day I learned to hate Herky.

Holy ****! Me too! I grew up in a neutral household. My dad's from Minnesota so he mostly watched the Vikings and didn't get too into college sports.

I respected Iowa as a program when I got to college. After that encounter at Kinnick I knew that a HUGE chunk of Iowa fans were complete d-bags.

I've seen ISU fans boo and yell at opposing players, but I've never witnessed the level of complete A-hole that I saw at Kinnick.

Some HOT TAKES over at HawkeyeNation about this "cheap shot"

"It's simple, if the clown athletic department won't do anything to improve the situation Iowa should refuse to play anymore games there. He had the hot hand, and it looked like that was an intentional cheap shot to take him out of the game. This should not be allowed to happen."

"Like I've said 1000 times, don't give me this "Ames and Iowa City aren't that different" crap. Plenty of aggie troglodytes up there. This is merely the latest example."

"Thug life, just like Prohm's players, a bunch of gangsta's. ISU just plain sucks, delusional freaks"

Does anyone else find it ironic that the "thug" Pemsl was battling it out with for the ball When this all happened is a Princeton graduate? Definition of gangsta thug right there!

I was in ISUCF"V"MB from 95-99. We paraded to the stadium even before the stadium opened my first year there to avoid assaults form drunk Iowa fans. Open full cans of beer thrown at us (get the impact of a full can hitting you plus the spilled beer on your uniform without the benefit of being able to pick it up and drink it). Quarters were thrown at us. Yelled at constantly. I grew up a Hawk fan. One game at their stadium, and I can never cheer for that team again. This "push" was nothing.

Ooh, ooh, I forgot BATTERIES! We had batteries, of all things, thrown at us. Unless someone in the student section had a freaking flashlight with him, that means they intentionally brought batteries into the stadium WITH THEM to throw at the opposing teams marching band. Like we are any kind of threat to them.

Some of the things I heard screamed at me were hilarious and so, so stupid.

Did you attend the "Sousa Bowl" the following year? We cheated and recruited a few non-sousas (including me). Even their band members were total pricks, ha ha! Some dude name Stew fractured their section leaders' ribs after a nasty hit. Probably the sickest lick I've ever seen in sandlot football. I celebrated that one pretty hard because he was flapping his jaws all night. Now THAT was real violence.

I have never been to Kinnick or Carver ... but I have relatives from the Chicago area that sent one of their kids to Iowa. They went to an Iowa FB game and said it was a horrible experience. Obscenities shouted by multiple adult hawk fans at their junior-high-age daughter as they walked from parking into the stadium because she was wearing a Northwestern sweatshirt. They were all quite traumatized by the vulgarity and hostility. They never went back again and still talk about it all the time. I know there are good hawks and bad hawks ... but they do seem to have an overall bad reputation among opposing fan bases in the Big.

At least they bused you guys to the stadium... some of us had to walk Melrose from out by West HS to get to Kinnick. The tools out there had water balloons and they weren't filled with water...

Sat in those old POS South bleachers and had a super Hawk puke next to us.

On the other side of the coin I saw an ISU fan Frisbee toss an Iowa fan's hat over the side of the bleachers.

To quote Trump... that whole night was a "pretty wild scene."

Bret, I have the follow up from Hawk fans, just for you:

giphy.gif

Still the only time I was banned. Only time I have ever PM'd @ChrisMWilliams. All because I was drunk and we lost that ******* game in Austin after watching the 1st half on Longhorn Network.

Looks like a non issue to me. Also, the reaction to the non issue (this thread) is also overblown.

However, if you are that mad about it there are two very easy ways to respond.

#1 stop listening to the morning rush. I used to listen and got sick of Travis so never do anymore. It'll change your morning attitude for the better trust me. Why start your day getting angry at a clown on the radio.

#2 Dont bother engaging with Travis on twitter or calling in mad, or calling the KXNO management (that plays right into what he wants). Call a morning rush advertiser and tell them you won't support their business anymore as long as they advertise on a show with Travis. Then follow through and don't spend money with them.

Travis is a shock jock. He's the lowest common denominator of infotainment. This has nothing to do with the push, this has to do with him understanding the sociology of listeners. Everyone in this thread (myself included) are exactly what he hoped to create by talking about this. He made 1 tweet from an angry losing fan editing a bad angle of film into a news story.

But if you enjoy having your emotions manipulated and a kids reputation destroyed by this fake controversy by all means keep it up with the pitchforks and anger directed at him. He'll appreciate your anger all the way to pay day.

Typical whining Hawk spin;
- Lotta years back...ISU wins at Carver and all they focus on is Scott Christopherson's "throat gash"
- 3 years ago losing at Carver, they only talk about Niang's kiss
- Two years ago after Uthoff scores 30 in first half and 0 in second, they try blaming students for trampling Peterson -- who tripped on a camera cord
- This year's loss is blamed on Pemsl over selling a rebound and stumbling 15' into the stands

Non basketball whining, but we'll never forget the Rose Bowl loss... this was 100% the fault of the Stanford band making fun of cows.

Don't forget some of the other classics like the sound system at Jack Trice being too loud.

They also think it's "classless" how Wisconsin has as one of their "get loud" things pre-recorded messages from some players telling Wisconsin fans to get loud. Just a fun fact

Just listening to that dbag Travis Justice on the Morning Rush.

Immediately calls for the kid to never be allowed in Hilton again. If I hadn't already seen the video, I'd think "the push" was the most egregious thing of all time.

Maybe ISU shouldn't allow Fran back in Hilton for fear he may kill a chair, or ref, or not shake hands, or maybe even injury a fan.
