Friday OT #1 - Candy Cane Children

PapaLew burned a bunch of Christmas CDs for me a while back, with artists from the 40s to the 2010s. He upgraded them to a thumb drive, and I played them at work starting Dec 1. I usually streamed music while I was working because the people in the next office were really loud. My speakers were set really low, though, and you couldn't hear the music unless you actually came into my office and over to my desk.

I'd like to add I watched the Rockefeller Xmas lighting show the other night with the GF...thought it might help with the Christmas-y feeling, and most of the performers made me not want to listen to anything. I'm pretty sure Gwen Stefani from 1992 would punch 2.0.

Man Throws Beer Bottle At Bartender For Changing Music From BLACK SABBATH To Christmas Song
Gamboeck got upset when the bartender changed the music in the bar from the English rock band BLACK SABBATH to Christmas music. Gamboeck chugged his glass bottle of Budweiser beer, and slammed it down on the counter. After yelling some expletives at the female bartender, Gamboeck threw the bottle in the direction of her head. Other patrons stepped in to keep Gamboeck from coming behind the counter, as he circled the bar with his fists clenched, until his uncle came over to intervene. Gamboeck was directed to the door by his uncle, but found it important to grab the Christmas tree, and pull it down; breaking several delicate ornaments.

I start listening on Thanksgiving and will listen through whenever we get done with all of our family Christmas get-togethers (that will be the 28th this year). My youngest daughter will occasionally put a Christmas song on starting in July. I generally prefer the traditional Christmas music. My wife loves Christmas Shoes and I'm with @coolerifyoudid in that, if it came on while I was at the roof's peak, I'd consider jumping just so that I wouldn't need to listen to the rest of the song.

Carol of the Bells versions are my favorite. Bird and the Bee does a great version that is lispy, dreamy and almost ethereal:

Constantly starting at 12:01 am on Black Friday and stops at 11:59 pm on Christmas.

Sometimes I'll slide to the end of the year, especially since we'll usually have somebody's family Christmas after 12/25

Janny was pumping gas, so I started to play Adam Sandler's Thanksgiving song because other than that, "Thanksgiving music" isn't really a thing.

Good observation, there isn't a plethora of Thanksgiving songs, is there?

About the only thing we have is "Alice's Restaurant." Which is a song about Alice. And the rest-er-ront.

But really, it's a song about The Draft, and all kinds of mean, nasty, ugly things, off to the side of the side-road. And friends, Obie was.

I started the Christmas music driving home from Thanksgiving dinner in the car, but started compiling the Christmas playlist about two weeks before Thanksgiving. I'm a traditionalist mostly, but uploaded the whole Straight No Chaser 2nd Christmas CD. Unfortunately, could not find "12 Pains of Xmas" on Spotify. I also uploaded the entire Nutcracker Suite. But I was extremely pleased to find songs from the Muppet Christmas special with John Denver.

Gonzo: "Now bring us some figgy pudding, now bring us some fig..."
Miss Piggy: "What? Piggy pudding?"
Gonzo: "No, figgy pudding. It's made with figs.."
Miss Piggy: "Oh, sorry."
Gonzo: "...and bacon."
Miss Piggy: "what."

This thread also had me find Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer by Reel Big Fish.

Edit: Yeah, there weren't CD's back in the mid-70's.

Go download Mannheim Steamroller's version of "Silent Night". It's gorgeous.

This is my favorite version of any of the Christmas songs. This will sound sappy but every Christmas Eve once the kids are to bed and we get presents put under tree my wife and I will sit and have wine by fire place and this song is the first and last song of the night every year.

The John Denver Muppets Xmas CD was a go-to in our house growing up. Listening to that instantly takes me back to being super excited for the holiday as an elementary school kid.

I change the radio if a Christmas song comes on. About a week or so before Christmas I will start really listening
