Friday OT #1 - Candy Cane Children

I don't usually seek out Christmas music, because you're inundated with it most places anyway. I have played it at home on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and during other holiday family get togethers.

I'm also a "You can't put the tree up until after Thanksgiving" kind of guy.

For the last few years I've tried to stay with actual hymns - Joy to the World, the First Noel, etc. Not that there aren't secular Christmas songs I like - "I'll Be Home for Christmas" is one of my all-time favorites - but I prefer to think more along the lines of what Christmas is really for. (Sorry if I'm sermonizing, just adding my two cents.)

It used to be the day after thanksgiving. Since the lady moved in, it starts at the beginning of November (and that's a compromise).

@Angie

I have a new one to add to your playlist.

Rudolph's gone give it to ya!

Dude, that is now on the list. How was I never aware of this previously?!

Go download Mannheim Steamroller's version of "Silent Night". It's gorgeous.

I'm on it - thank you!!

Oh my gosh, I've got so many of these on my list. And I wasn't aware Martin Sexton had any Christmas music, I'll go add that one now! I have the Bing/Bowie "Little Drummer Boy," but not the Hoodoo Gurus one, I'll hunt that down!

The show Aqua Teen Hunger Force (which went downhill dramatically with the movie) has a whole album of Christmas music that's hilarious. "Santa Put A Booger In My Stocking" just kills my kids.

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings have an entire album that is just beautiful. I think you'd like that.

November 1st..no later. :jimlad:

In all honesty, the day after Thanksgiving.

I just heard about the DMX song yesterday. They played it on KXNO as well. It's actually kind of cool, but mostly just hilarious.

There was a thread on reddit for it, and there are so many good DMX related X-Mas puns and jokes.

Contrary to my previous quip, I'm not truly anti-Christmas-music. Like cyhiphop, it isn't something I actively seek, and I don't feel compelled to play it at home in and around the holiday season.

For the most part, as long as I can avoid hearing "Santa Baby" more than once each year, the rest is fair game. With another exception, "The Twelve Days of Christmas."

And several others. But beyond THAT ... :)

Tonight when the tree goes up! My wife and I went into Bath and Body Works the other day Christmas shopping, and they had the best playlist going. They were killing it with the good smells and upbeat Christmas jams.

We usually do our tree the weekend after Thanksgiving and start listening to some then.

I can't link my Spotify list without sharing personal deets, so here's just a screenshot of a few songs on it.

I admire your organization. That's what I need to do, compile a playlist. Somehow, I tend to get caught unawares, even though I know Christmas tends to fall on the same date, most years. From a calendrical standpoint, it's as reliable as Easter.

We have the same basic meal/gift routine for family Xmas-eve annually, but I'm rarely prepared, music-wise. In anticipation of everyone's arrival, I pull up a personal Spotify list, something like "Top 50 Songs of All Time Nobody But Me Has Ever Heard." At some point soon after, my spousal says, "Put on some Christmas music." Then, I'm in scramble-mode.

Around that juncture, I realize I have over- or under-cooked the lasagna, and didn't buy enough garlic bread to accommodate those in attendance.

I'm currently loving the digression on whether or not Jonah Hill is swole or dad bod.

I totally get it! I basically am trying to force my children to have interesting and good music tastes, so I try and get fun play lists for Halloween and Christmas together for them. The downside of this is that the eldest asked for "Thanksgiving music" while we were traveling on T-Day. Janny was pumping gas, so I started to play Adam Sandler's Thanksgiving song because other than that, "Thanksgiving music" isn't really a thing. He came in and immediately made me turn it off, reminding me of what his brother does with baby oil in the song.
