K-State to Host ISU at Arrowhead - Confirmed

Re: Its Official: 2009 & 2010 at Arrowhead

My only concern is, How will this effect the Ames economy? Game days are big business around here and by taking one away, we are talking some major $$$$

The same way it will only having 6 home games this year. Im guessing it will not bankrupt a single business in Ames!

I agree with you to a point....

But I think the 1.8 million guarenteed to ISU athletics outwiegh their concerns on the Ames economy.

Jamie is not responsible for their success/he is held accountable for the success of ISU athletics

Ding Ding Ding. JP's background is in finance and his job is to grow the business of ISU athletics, if there wasn't financial benefit in this deal we wouldn't be doing it.

That said, a home game for ISU certainly brings in some business for the local shops in Ames, but if one of those businesses is so close to the edge that losing out on 1 home football game in the next two years is going to put them under, they would probably go under sometime soon anyways.

My biggest concern is the health of the ISU athletic budget, not whether or not Hickory Park can make it one Saturday without the influx of a football crowd. The Ames businesses will survive. After all, they make it 3 months just find during the summer without the students.

Last time I checked Ames wasn't exactly doing favors for Iowa State University (or at the very least ISU's students - i.e., the ridiculous number and nature of ordinances that solely discriminate students) - kind of the other way around as the city tends to be more of a parasite of the University. And if the city doesn't have it's OWN economic priorities in order (i.e., ridiculous zoning strategies that discourage economic development and doing everything in their power to prevent the building of a mall that is at least twice as good as the existing one, not to mention one that is much more easily accessed by an entire REGION as opposed to one that is mostly easily accessible by certain NEIGHBORHOODS), why should Iowa State care? Let Ames worry about keeping it's own businesses in business...

Iowa State sure "cares" about the city of Ames, and businesses, when it comes to asking for $$$$ for Homecoming, Veishea, Greek Week, summer jobs for athletes, etc., etc., etc., etc.

ISU regularly sends a PARADE of speakers to our Ames Rotary meetings (including Jamie and Gene) for one big reason: guess what that is???

Both feed off/benefit each other.

Jamie taking steps to build a better football program will benefit Ames in the end.

Higher attendance/more people on gameday weekends. I understand your dissatisfaction in the sort term.

Have to look farther down the road.

Agree.

Nebraska talk shows are bashing ISU for accepting to play KSU in KC. They can't believe that ISU would give up a home game and they question how many ISU fans will attend Arrowhead. I almost drove off the Road, I was so pissed. I believe that ISU fans will flood KC. No matter what the records are, ISU fans will attend this game. As an ISU alumni, I think this is a great move.

GO CYCLONES!!!!!!!!!!

Even though the game will be in Kansas City, I strongly believe more ISU fans will show up for this game than K-State fans. The Iowa State game is NOT a big draw for other teams. The Iowa State game generally draws the smallest crowds of the conference matchups. Many schools have to give big discounts to sell tickets to the Iowa State game. We will have the crowd advantage....my guess.

Just be warned. Like I said earlier. I went to the Iowa KSU game at arrowhead and the Iowa fans were VERY sure they would outnumber KSU but oh were they surprised to enter a stadium with 75% screaming KKKKKKKKKK SSSSSSSSSSSSS UUUUUUUUUUU WILDCATS! Humble pie is very bitter. I think we will attend well but agree with posters from above. This is not ISU versus a national power from half a continent away (FSU) to open the entire college football season (a preseason bowl if you will). This is ISU vs KSU and we should be ready for a LARGE number of wildcat fans at this game. Not saying we can't outnumber them but I will settle for even.

I love how some of you think Ames and Iowa State are mutually exclusive.

You are completely right. Arrowhead seats about 79,000. There may be 35,000 ISU fans but there will probably also be 35,000 KSU fans.

Yeah, but when Iowa played Kansas State, the Wildcats were a national power - a top ten program. They are a far cry from that now. There will be a lot less fans in purple justifying a trip, no matter where it is. I saw a lot of empty seats in Manhattan on TV last season - that was unheard of during Snyder's glory days.

Here is the KSU reaction to this game. Most are not happy about it.

If KSU fans don't like it - all the more reason to do it!

They are getting ready to have Pollard on 810 sports radio in KC at about 3:30. They have also been talking about they were trying to get this game to be the first game of the year but it didn't work out. It also sounds like this could develop in a permanent thing.

We're hardly in our glory days, and you still hear about how well Iowa State travels. Kansas State could be the same way for all I know, and they have less of a trip.

Also, K-State has a huge alumni population in the Kansas City area, so you could expect those fans to jump on it. I think it'll be a good 60-70% purple.

Looks like more of the same over there... maybe a little more pissed than we are but I was seeing some of the same arguments... ought to be interesting to see anyways
