NOTEBOOK: What's going on with Tongamoa?

I had Dr. Woods in Boone. She was the sweetest, most motherly thing ever but pulled no punches on teaching you calculus. I was glad I did it, though -- she had way more ability and time to help individually than any TA in Ames would have had, and she was very good and very experienced at what she did (unlike, again, a teaching assistant at ISU) and, well, was a native English speaker, which made the whole thing easier for everybody to survive.

It was no easier at DMACC, maybe even a little harder, but it better prepared me for some upper-level math, statistics, and economics course and the "teaching conditions" (the situation and the teacher) ultimately made it a more surmountable challenge. Central Iowa having those resources for high school students doing cross enrollment or future Drake and ISU students doing a year or two of JUCO at DMACC before moving up is a heck of a nice to start out.

Cheap, and the quality and expectations of the instruction at DMACC is really high. I will defend my experience there to the death. I came into ISU with ~35 credits, roughly half from AP and half from DMACC, which made killing two majors and a few minors easier. I was lucky to have a lot of those early "weed out" classes (calculus, American history, basic composition, etc.) in a 15-20 person classroom instead of some mega-lecture hall in doing that, too.

Also had Woods and agree with you 100%.

It's just amazing how many people do not understand what "2 years to play 2" means. C'mon, wake up.

Tongamoa does NOT have a RS year that he can even use. If he doesn't play this year, he loses it. So even if he can only help us for the final 2 games of the year, then you play him the final 2 games. There is no reason not to play him this year, even if it's for only 1 play a game.

8-10 plays per game first 4 games
12-15 plays per game next 4 games
As much as we need him the last 5 games

2018 starter

Better than him not getting here at all!

This will work if the snaps he takes are graded to be quality snaps. If so, progression could be faster. If not, progression could slow up. He will determine the number of snaps.

I think you are miss reading my message I am not doubting what Coach has said, nor am I a saying it is not true. I just know how these late JUCOs sometimes never make it.... I know the DL seems to have more depth than the past few years, but one more in the depth mix even if he has an uphill battle of getting into shape is only going to make this team better at the end of the year. Until he is on campus and practicing, I am not comfortable with the past kicks to the nads.....

I'm going off of what other coaches have said - or more importantly NOT said - when asked about players not on the roster yet. Can't think of another coach being as upfront and clear about a player than CMC.

I did see his comment on the interview Monday, it did seem like he was on top of it. Also seemed like Alex Halstad confirmed on 247 he would be on campus later this week.... Good news and not doubting he won't make it, just not counting it till he is here....

I get it... His arrival and hopefully stellar play can really make a difference this year depending on how quick he gets acclimated.

Like I said in previous thread, if we can get between 12-20 snaps at a peak point this year it adds the needed depth on DL that is badly needed...

So how good he is will determine how many snaps he gets?

Not sure if you're joking but makes sense that quality experience would trump non-quality experience? Playing a few snaps against D1 starters should make him better than a few few snaps against UNI's 3rd string during the upcoming shelacking.

Oh c'mon, it won't be that bad. I actually think Iowa St can hang with them this year.
