NBA: ***Official NBA Draft and Offseason Thread***

Kyrie really screwed the Cavs. They could have got PG13.

ESPN reported yesterday that the Pacers agreed to the PG13 trade with Love going to the Nuggets only for the GM to pull out (via text) at the 11 hour.
Kyrie wasn't even going to be involved. I think I even saw a report in June that LeBron wanted Kyrie held out of any trade discussions.
In any case it is going to be an awkward locker room in Quickinloan area this fall.

Maybe this triggers the rumored CP3 / DWade / LBJ / Melo scenario?

Not sure how good they would be, but they would be a draw.

That's a horrible trade. Why would they give up Kyrie and love for Melo and Bledsoe???

It might be the best offer they get. As the Butler and PG trades showed, superstars are not netting teams the haul they were hoping for. I'm not sure why that is, but the fact is that Kyrie is a one trick pony - he's an elite scorer and he's played well in big moments, but he's still a sieve on defense and it's fair to question whether he makes his teammates better on offense.

If the Cavs could re-tool with a good two way guard like Bledsoe and they get Team USA Melo, then that's at least something to work with. They need to do something because as they're currently composed, their ceiling is always going to be playing the Washington Generals to the Warriors' Harlem Globetrotters.

Saw something about this on Twitter.

LBJ has had so much smoke around ending up in LA next year but if the Rockets land Melo soon I think LBJ could look to Houston. DWade is a free agent next summer as well.

Maybe. I guess it would depend in part on who buys the Rockets with the franchise up for sale. Whoever the new ownership group is will have to be willing to go pretty deep into the luxury tax to get that group together and then fill out a roster around them.

At least Dan Gilbert got his ring before the Cavs implode again. Wonder if they'll get 3 more #1 picks...

The kings offered them De'aaron Fox

You mean when he was 22 years old and younger? Should he have really led a team with nothing to more wins being 22 and younger?

Is a team with Irving as its best player really anywhere close to a title contender? I would say no. He's very similar to Lillard in that if he's your best guy, you're ceiling is probably a second round type of team. Irving's a great scorer, but he's not a big time creater offensively and he's an average at best defender who you more than likely will have to try to hide on defense.

Yep. He's better suited to be the sidekick on a contender. If he's your best player you're not realistically thinking Finals. That's why a lot of people are going to be underwhelmed by what the Cavs will get for Kyrie if they move him. It's a depressed market for teams dumping their franchise guys.

If they do move Irving, Cleveland will have a chance, albeit the odds of getting the right guys for this are very small at this point, to build the kind of team I always thought should be built around LeBron. And that is not having a point guard out there, have a really big, small ball crunch time lineup. LeBron, three wings and Tristan Thompson.

Miami planned to do this when they first got LeBron with a Wade-Mike Miller-LeBron-Bosh-Haslem lineup. That lineup didn't get a ton of minutes together due to injuries to Miller and Haslem the first year, Bosh the second, and Wade falling off hard after that, but Miami was lights out defensively with that group the first two years when they had peak athletic Wade and LeBron and were trapping all over the place. With the NBA going smaller since then, you don't need two bigs anymore so swap out the Haslem role for another wing. Slow it down against the Warriors, get a lineup where you can switch everything and space the floor for LeBron to drive and kick. I think that's their only chance to beat the Warriors.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I think people are mistaken that think he will not win on his own. Yes he won't win championships and make conference finals appearances on his own, but he can still help a team reach playoffs and win 40+ games. Before LeBron and co arrived in Cleveland, he was just a 22 yo on his own pretty much.

Yeah, I agree with that. 45 wins and maybe getting to the second round with a good matchup would seem about where you're leveling off with Kyrie as your number one guy.

It's going to be really interesting to see where he lands, Wiggins and Teague for Irving and Shumpert, who says no to that one?

I don't hate it for Cleveland, but I'd like it more if Wiggins was a better shooter. Teague was OK as a spot up shooter for the Pacers, and he'd be a decent fit as an off the ball guard with Point Lebron. I don't think it's a great spot for Kyrie, though. He'd be a third option behind KAT and Butler, and he'd have to play defense to play for Thibs. Doesn't sound like what he wants. I think Minny would pass.
