Is anyone having problems with their internet or cable services. I've got Mediacom and have been having issues with their services. Does anyone have any recommendations for different providers?

I've had issues for years. There's really no other options as far as I know unless you want to go DSL. I haven't had problems with cable for awhile, but yes their Internet is wildly unreliable.

I really like Mediacom after I dropped their cable and just kept internet. Their pricing seems to be the best in the Metro and I rarely lose service (knock on wood). What kinds of problems are you having? Is it perhaps equipment related/isolated to your home or is this a recurring outage that affects your block/neighborhood? You may have some different options in the Quad Cities.

I've been having so many issues.

In the last year they've been out at least 10 times. They've replaced the modem, outlets, tons of cables, dropped a new line outside, etc. Last week I bought myself a new modem SB6190 and Google wifi (3). With the google wifi I get excellent coverage throughout the house and I believe my modem numbers look ok. When my internet is up I always get a solid 120-130mbps. The problem is that my internet is going out 4-5 times per day and never comes back without intervention. To resolve the issue I unhook the connection on the back of the router and it always comes right back online.

Can anyone interpret these numbers:

Your numbers look comparable to mine except your SNR numbers are a little lower and your Corrected/Uncorrectables are a lot higher. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30783440-Corrected-and-Uncorrectables

Do you have a splitter before your cable modem?

I've had bad service/customer service for years but its the best option for the things I want/like.

Stick with the devil you know I guess.

Since last Saturday, out internet has been down and as of yesterday our house phone is down. We called a representative yesterday to try and get help over the phone yesterday and didn't have much success with that. We were instructed to unplug our router and modem and plug them back in and see if that fixed it. It didn't so they had me plug an ethernet into my computer to try and bypass the router or something which was also didn't work. They said the fastest they could get a tech over to look at the problem would be Thursday, and that if it wasn't a neighborhood issue that we would have to pay out of pocket to get it serviced. On top of that they won't even deduct from our bill the internet and phone outage. It's pretty frustrating and seems like it happens every month or so.

I removed my Moca before the the modem a week ago thinking that it may help the problem. Do you think it's possible that it actually made it worse?

I was having all kinds of problems with my internet a while back. Turns out my neighbor was aerating their yard and nicked my cable right by the box. They ran a new line, and we're good as new. Sounds like you've had people out, though, so they likely would have figured it out if something like this was the problem...

Fellow Quad Citian (Citizen?) here and it seems like Mediacom is the only decent option. I've heard that in new developments Century Link is offering gigabit service but I just checked my address again and they still only offer 5 Mb. I have my own modem/router combo and haven't had any issues other than the time they somehow managed to put it into bridge mode and no one could figure out the problem until I bought a new router and the entry-level tech I called to set up the new router ended up fixing the old one.

Do you still get 911 service on your home phone? You could escalate your issue to Mediacom and say that they are breaking FCC guidelines by not allowing you to have that service and are putting you and your family at risk.

Have you checked the lease time on your router? How do you have your devices connected? I would recommend reserving the MAC addresses of all your devices and then release your DHCP lease. It sounds like your issue may be that your devices are connecting to the router with the basic WiFi credentials and then are getting booted from the router after the lease expires - that could explain why you have to reboot the router so frequently.

Not a bad idea, if that's what it comes to.

I was having this issue before I got a new router. Also before I got a new modem. Right now my google wifi shows 21 devices connected. DNS is is set to auto. Also, I've haven't rebooted the router in a week. Rebooting the modem doesn't work as good as just disconnecting it and screwing it back in.
