First he will be here a couple of years. My question is what would you do?

What do people think of him so far, and how do you think we should react with his performance?

I personally think that if we don't see some major improvement of in game coaching we need to move on. I really wanted him to succeed, but I have been really disappointed in his performance. Last year felt great because we had a great run in the tournament, but when you actually look at the season I believe we underachieved. This year I think we have the talent for a top 20 team, but we are not playing up to that.

I look at a few key things. Offensively I don't think we are that good. Sure last year we were efficient, but I think that was mostly due to Niang. This year has been significantly worse. That stretch to begin conference play was good, but other than that we have seen a lack of movement and poor sets. Defensively, while I have been impressed with our effort at times to often we are getting beat. Some of this has to do with issues of size, but I don't understand how it could be worse at points. Lastly I'm really disappointed in his game management. I don't like his rotations. I think one thing we could do to improve our defense and rebounding is to constantly rotate guys in to give max effort. This is mostly an issue with bigs, but I wouldn't mind seeing more pressure and maybe occasionally getting Long in if need be. I also don't think he is very get with setting up plays. I can't remember the last time where we had a really good play out of a timeout or special situation.

I hope Prohm can change my mind by the end of the year, but I think we are at the point where we still can have the momentum of Hoiberg and the Niang years, and I don't want to lose that waiting to see if he can improve.

Edit: I will add that if we don't make the move this year then I think we need to give him a couple years. Part of my issue is I think we can still capitalize on our momentum from the last couple years.

I'm not a Prohm fan but it's too early to say. Next year will be rough. Year 4 will be the year to judge him whether he should go or not

I say give him a few more years. Loosing George was huge. Our lack of size inside is killing us. If in 2 years we are still without quality players on the inside, I do think it is time to move on. Prohm can clearly recruit guards, but need to recruit some big guys too.

A consensus top 15 roster? Sure we didn't have a lot of post depth or young people, but he has significantly underachieved IMO. It also isn't so much the results, but the failure to show competent in game coaching.

How do you out-length and out-height other teams? You'd think with better ball movement and shooting, but our players seem to have droughts of both. Cant really coach that after a point.

I just dont understand why some folks cant grasp this concept.

It's a good question. Then, you have Prohm taking heat for bringing in Bowie and Holden. They were a last minute grab to fill a void with unused scholarships after his plans were blown up. I'm actually excited to see who else he gets to sign in this class (JUCO/grad transfer bigs).

It's pretty silly to even have this discussion. Iowa St coaching is not a democracy.

Does anyone really think Pollard would fire him after this year? Hell No

After next year? Hell No

In two years? He would have to be below .500 next year, then have an even worse record in two years, with some embarrassing losses in there.

Yes you can. That is part of what irritates me. The ball moved significantly better with plenty of these players when Fred was here. That has to be a coaching issue for me.

Sure we aren't tall and didn't have any post depth last year, but that weakness is generally overstated.

We got wide open 3-point looks last night coming out of a time out at a time when KU was pretty much only guarding the 3-point line. That's literally within the last 2 minutes of sample size for after timeout plays.

Thus is the formula for top-15 teams to disappear.

Although, I also think his X's/O's prowess hasn't been showing lately, either. I actually thought we should take a page out of KU's book and run our halfcourt offense like they do with their guards -- move and pass often around the perimeter until something opens up, be it an outside shot or a hole/pass to the lane. Our ISO-style offense is just too stagnant, we do best when we toss the ball around a lot. What they ran was very simple yet reasonably effective (granted, their post advantages helped that out, too).
