First he will be here a couple of years. My question is what would you do?
What do people think of him so far, and how do you think we should react with his performance?
I personally think that if we don't see some major improvement of in game coaching we need to move on. I really wanted him to succeed, but I have been really disappointed in his performance. Last year felt great because we had a great run in the tournament, but when you actually look at the season I believe we underachieved. This year I think we have the talent for a top 20 team, but we are not playing up to that.
I look at a few key things. Offensively I don't think we are that good. Sure last year we were efficient, but I think that was mostly due to Niang. This year has been significantly worse. That stretch to begin conference play was good, but other than that we have seen a lack of movement and poor sets. Defensively, while I have been impressed with our effort at times to often we are getting beat. Some of this has to do with issues of size, but I don't understand how it could be worse at points. Lastly I'm really disappointed in his game management. I don't like his rotations. I think one thing we could do to improve our defense and rebounding is to constantly rotate guys in to give max effort. This is mostly an issue with bigs, but I wouldn't mind seeing more pressure and maybe occasionally getting Long in if need be. I also don't think he is very get with setting up plays. I can't remember the last time where we had a really good play out of a timeout or special situation.
I hope Prohm can change my mind by the end of the year, but I think we are at the point where we still can have the momentum of Hoiberg and the Niang years, and I don't want to lose that waiting to see if he can improve.
Edit: I will add that if we don't make the move this year then I think we need to give him a couple years. Part of my issue is I think we can still capitalize on our momentum from the last couple years.
