Cockiness

I'm sure this is in the game thread, but I think it deserves its own thread. In what way did Bowie think it was OK to say this...

Probably Drake's best game this season, considering the opponent, and another lackluster effort for 35 minutes by ISU, and he's spouting off this crap?

This team needs to take a hard look in the mirror and realize who they are, and Prohm needs to get ahold of their attitude and let them know they are no where near as good as they think they are (yet at least), and simply tell them to STFU.

Bowie said. “That just showed why they don’t deserve to be on the court with us and we really feel like they don’t deserve to."

That is likely what Iowa said as they kicked the crap out of ISU. I love this team, but I would suggest they let their play do the talking!

You know that he's come out and apologized for that mistake, right?

Yeah, I think it is still going to be a struggle against Baylor, West Virginia, Kansas and a couple of other teams who are really good at offensive rebounding unless Young and Holden can really step it up rebounding wise. I am curious as to why Young didn't play many minutes against Drake.
I think worrying about competing with those teams is getting ahead of ourselves. I'm more worried about how we compete with OSU, TCU, and TTU. Because right now those teams would beat us the way we are playing.

The "cockiness" problem always solves itself. One way or the other.
Either you start playing impressively and winning, in which case your cockiness is magically transformed in people's minds into "swagger," or you continue to demonstrate your weaknesses and losing habits, in which case even the least acute start to realize their "Dunning-Kruger" and their own absurdity.

In short, nobody loves a loser.

**** stats, guys. If you want a true view of what our team is, you should judge them by how they played in one game and one game only.

This thread is so typical of the uninformed making senseless statements. Started out with plenty of criticism of Coach because he needed to "tune these guys in." Interestingly, that is exactly what the coach did, long before these posts appeared. But never let lack of information prevent wisdom to flow on this forum.

Bottom line, if anyone actually knows Coach they will realize he is 100% class - all the way. He took so much heat last year because the team under-performed early, but they still made it to the Sweet 16. He had some "attitudes" that he needed to deal with - and he did. Similarly, he had some "attitudes" this year to deal with, and he is doing just that. Head cases really damage a team, and usually result in under-performance of the team. Cleaning up the mess is easier said than done, but Coach has shown he can do it. He is patient - but not too patient. He sets a standard for the team - and expects the team to meet that standard - win, loose or draw.

I do not care if every poster on this forum disagrees with me, but I think Coach is doing a pretty good job. He is adjusting to the world of the Big 12. He is adjusting to the players he has to work with. But within all that, he is a class guy, which as a Cyclone, I truly value and respect.

Maybe on the road. But not at home.

He may have class and did take care of head cases last year. He can recruit. He has shown the ability to develop and promote individual players. But this year, he has shown little in the way of having the team run plays, especially in the closing minutes. Look at the Iowa game, the players were confused what to do in critical situations and were looking at the coach often going what should we do. I do hope it is a learning curve and we will play as a team later in the year. Right now, I see this as a coaching problem. In addition, the recruiting of 2 players with huge academic issues bothers me greatly. They are student-athletes, he has forgotten about the student part.

Apparently to our fans it doesn't matter if he apologized for his comments. Bowie should be kicked off the team.

And now that we know this stemmed from a huddle in the middle of the game where I don't care what is said in the heat of battle to get the team pumped then it's even more of a non-issue. Plus it seemed to work.

Agree with OSU. Disagree with TCU. Strongly disagree with Tech.

THIS. It would be way different if he had said it in a post game presser or something.
