Cockiness

I read the actual article just now. Maybe we should all do that.

Anyway, the context was more about what the team was saying when they were in a close game. As in "Come on guys, let's get our **** together. This shouldn't be a close game." This sentiment was apparently shared by all of our fans. So we should sort of be happy they realized this.

Anyway, it was a stupid thing to say, especially knowing that would be what the media would focus on. But from my reading of the article, it wasn't like this was his thoughts about the team after the game. It was what they were saying to each other during the game.

Niang was great when it came to trash talk. He backed it up, and wasn' vicious about it. These guys are coming off as pretty unlikeable.

I guarantee Hawkeye fans and maybe JHawk fans are the only people on Earth who enjoy basketball and dislike Monte Morris. It makes me laugh thinking that somebody out there has watched him these past 3.5 years and dislikes his game or personality, it means that person is pretty unhinged mentally.

I didn't get that at all. He said that Naz huddled everyone up and told everyone to step it up in the final stretch. He then said the fact that they did step it up meant that Drake had no business being on the same court as them, and that they felt like drake didn't deserve to be on the same court. While his statement is 100% true, I dont think a team that has been struggling to win/beat inferior opponents has any credibility to make that type of statement.

Had he said "Drake does not belong on the same court as us. However, we were not able to show that tonight, and that shows that we have a lot of work to do", then I would be praising him right now.

It is what it is. People are determined to be pissed about and at this team.

Should he have said it no. But he just finished playing a game vs a team that hasn't been good all season. Yes this staff needs to put a stop to this and make them realize they need to come ready for every game.

There were also many reports of Drake players talking, mainly the bench, talking **** all bad during the game.

And they have every right to be. This team should not get blown out by Iowa while only scoring 64 on their piss poor defense. This team should not be going toe to toe with Drake for 35 minutes, or with Indiana State for 40. This team should not score 130 points in one home game, only to score 54, in overtime, in their next home game. This team is extremely inconsistent and cocky, and anyone who is not happy with it has every right.

It is going to be a rough few years coming up if this is the on-going sentiment. Our fanbase has been spoiled the last few years, and expects to blow people out constantly now. Fact of the matter is we lost arguably the best Cyclone in history, to not think there would be some adjustments this year, and to expect everything to go smoothly is extremely naive.

I knew we would miss Niang, I didn't think it would be quite this much, but our entire offense ran through him last year, or ran knowing defenses would respect him. This year, they still are working to find a new offensive identity, that is why they are inconsistent. Yes it is a senior laden team, but it is also a senior laden team with basically a new offensive identity.

There's unhappy and then there is irrational hatred. This board veers too much on the hatred side.

I don't like to see people bashing on of the best point guards we've ever had who had done nothing but represent Iowa state well. I don't like to see them bash a 5th year guy who didn't have to come back who also had not been anything but a good representative.

I have no idea how good this team is. I fear they aren't that great. We all maybe need some perspective or maybe you should stop watching the games. This much anger and hatred is not good.

I agree on the hatred stuff...and hopefully I'm not giving that impression. However, I KNOW this team is much better then they are playing, and it bothers me to see them sleepwalk through games and then make cocky statements regardless of the outcome. If you think you are that good, and most of us know they are that good, than SHOW IT!

You are giving that impression. They need to play better but people are acting like it is all an effort thing.

A few things wrong with this post.

First - Iowa fans are football fans, and tolerate basketball until the next season.

Second, Iowa fans have a right to dislike Morris's personality, as he spouted off some pretty douchey things before and after the game.

What. So they are fair weather fans, or only support a winner? I would say many Iowa fans only support any team when they are winning. Mid football season fans were falling off the Iowa football bandwagon wanting the staff fired. Then they win the Michigan game and they couldn't get back on the bandwagon fast enough. Same for basketball, last season in Jan the black and yellow was out like crazy, come March, many of those fans put their Iowa fandom away for the summer.

I'd say this is pretty accurate for most fan bases.

Could we have put away Drake much earlier in the game? Certainly. I'll take the victory, but I've never liked it when our teams and fans have such a sense of entitlement that they feel comfortable saying things like what Bowie said, even if taken out of context.

To this point in the season with the inconsistency we've shown we haven't earned the "right" to talk about crap about any team either before or after the game. Even if the team and fans don't feel teams like Drake "deserve" to be on the same floor (whatever the hell that means), you still have to go out and play with maximum effort. Making comments like Bowie did and even more so what Monte said after the Iowa game speak of me of having a sense of entitlement towards victory, almost expecting lesser teams to lay down for us and just accept their inevitable whoopin'. It doesn't work like that.
