Cockiness

This team should not be going toe to toe with Drake for 35 minutes, or with Indiana State for 40. This team should not score 130 points in one home game, only to score 54, in overtime, in their next home game. This team is extremely inconsistent and cocky, and anyone who is not happy with it has every right.
Indiana state has BEATEN top 25 teams this year...

You are giving that impression. They need to play better but people are acting like it is all an effort thing.

As always. Its the go to rationalization of old people and fans that dont know basketball. If this team gave 110%, had 2 6'10" plodders, and shot 90% from the line we'd be national champs.

I probably fit the old guy demographic and respectively disagree with a couple of the sentiments described. I will say defense and rebounding is about effort and if you disagree, you never played basketball.

By the way, Creighton was down 5 late to a very bad Oral Roberts team 2-8) at home and managed to pull off a one point win. It happens. Sometimes kids don't come ready to play and don't take opponents seriously. Main thing is to get the W.

One thing good teams do is get better as the season goes on. Even good ISU teams of the past have looked bad in Dec at times. Look back at the past 6 years teams and they all had issues this time of year and fans were worried. If you look around college basketball even the best programs are not always great this time of year. See the yearly Kansas isn't that good thread posted about this time of year. They do get better and play better as the season goes on. The goal is to be playing good ball at the end of Jan to March. Time will tell with this team.

Wow, Bowie actually said that Drake was "a good team", how dumb is this guy? They're 1-9 ya bozo, obviously not good!

Should he have said it no. But he just finished playing a game vs a team that hasn't been good all season. Yes this staff needs to put a stop to this and make them realize they need to come ready for every game.

There were also many reports of Drake players talking, mainly the bench, talking **** all bad during the game.
Agree to this, and BTW, really like your signature quote. :)

After Morris' comments after the Iowa loss, Prohm should have made it clear to the players that ONLY comments RESPECTING their opponents will be made to the press from now on. Instead comes this crap. We have a very timid coach.

oh please. this is nonsensical. All coaches are imperfect human beings because we are all imperfect human beings, but Prohm is not "timid".

It's also interesting that when Coach Prohm focused them on defense, they played well defensively and the same with the offense. So he knows how to coach. Time to start putting it all together.

It also seems like he focuses on making our team better for lower opponents and on the opposition for better ones.

Throwing out a wild idea here, but maybe focus on both offense and defense? Not sure if any coaches have tried this route but I think it might make sense.

I just saw this in a post Keith Murphy had made on FB.

Are these guys idiots or what? Prohm needs to get his players to stop making stupid comments like this. Drake led the game through several stretches, and Bowie thinks he needs to say this kind of ****?

Our players need to get over themselves and realize that they aren't nearly as good as they think they are. No one on the schedule fears them and many of those teams on the schedule will relish beating the hell out of ISU.

Let me just say that the way this team played One Win Drake last nite...they certainly are good...Good Enough To LOSE to Kansas.....Baylor and Oklahoma....@ home......

This team needs a serious attitude adjustment.....

We're not going to lose to Oklahoma at home

Remember, no guarantees in sports.....plenty of those who said we wouldn't lose to Cincy at home, either. OU better than Cincy, imo. Having said that, I just hope we can come on this message board in February and criticize/ridicule all of the negative posts this week, including any of my own. That would be worth it.

It is going to be a rough few years coming up if this is the on-going sentiment. Our fanbase has been spoiled the last few years, and expects to blow people out constantly now. Fact of the matter is we lost arguably the best Cyclone in history, to not think there would be some adjustments this year, and to expect everything to go smoothly is extremely naive.

I knew we would miss Niang, I didn't think it would be quite this much, but our entire offense ran through him last year, or ran knowing defenses would respect him. This year, they still are working to find a new offensive identity, that is why they are inconsistent. Yes it is a senior laden team, but it is also a senior laden team with basically a new offensive identity.

I agree with you re george niang and our absymal offense...but that still doesnt explain the lousy defense and the breakaway basket, after a made basket by us ....even steve prohm had to call a timeout on that one.....

Going to be a long year and maybe the next couple years before we er prohm gets enough talent to get back to the top 20........

Did you even read what I said? I specifically said we haven't played like it but if you look at our talent we are. Drake did play well but still had no business being close to us as evidenced by the what 21-4 run.

Yes, I read your post.

Just eyeballing here, but I would say most Top 25 teams have one or multiple players that can create and do SOMETHING to be multi-dimentional. I don't think ISU has that. Morris going pick and roll usually looks like a guy trying to do something that doesn't fit his abilities. Thomas is actually pretty good at finding his own shot, but I think is getting blanketed up. Long is best without dribbling. Burton...it's either straight to the basket or a heave.

Experienced, yes. Multi-dementional...not seeing it. It's not like Drake was completely physically mismatched all over the court, no matter what ISU's players (and fans) seem to think or say.

if you think the effort has been there all season, than we are watching separate games. One thing that sticks out to me often is our lack of effort to 50/50 balls, and on simple rebounds. To me, one of the main reason we lost to Iowa was because we had little to no effort.
