The northern woods in winter is for black-capped chickadees and pine siskins, not people. You are likely crazy, which is cool, I like crazy people. o_O
I spent 3 summers working with the scouts and the USFS fixing portage trails in the Boundary Waters (better summer gig than teaching) and was intrigued by the idea of winter camping. I learned a lot, particularly about applied thermodynamics. Trial by ice and fire, if you will.

Winter camping was a true test of will against the elements. The beauty of the wilderness can really be appreciated in the silence of winter. I recommend that everyone try it once.

I have a friends wife that claims north Iowa is worse than the Canadian border. From some place around baubette, she said there isn't the wind up there and snow just falls, doesn't blow. Never been there, what is your opinion.

Having lived in Mason City (I taught at NIACC for 4 years) I can see where they are coming from. More wind on average in N. Iowa area, but when it gets cold Up North (these polar vortexes are a good example) it's tough to beat. I camped out during the last one (January 2014) and they were the toughest conditions I've ever been in, bar none (that includes growing up in NW WI as a kid). Closest I've ever been to being hypothermic.

Tough to find a place to hide in N. Iowa. It's just so darn flat.

So small update. Cart still DEFINITELY before the horse, but slightly more there. So the company that contacted me contacted me about a position I applied for in a different area a year ago. I replied to them and said I'm not looking in that area because I moved to Minneapolis and if they have any positions in that area to let me know (I already knew they did). Responded saying she'd be VERY interested in talking with me about the Minneapolis position. I almost feel guilty like I'm cheating on a spouse or something.
Just remember, the corporate executives are only using you to enhance their personal lifestyle, will look for reasons to criticize when things don't go their way and only put out the goods when it's convenient to them. So... yeah... kind of like cheating on a spouse.

Just noticed that @Entropy is a chemistry professor here. If you are at Coe you probably know a family member of mine who is a bio professor.

Did some instruction for Waldorf. What time frame were you at NIACC, maybe you had pantsy.

Gave this a winner on both threads. Love the BB-8 hat. Where did you get it? I'd like to pick one up for my grand-nephew (named Luke)

My boy's name is Owen. I told my wife it had nothing to do with Star Wars, but if he meets a nice girl named Beru and they go off to start a farm together, I won't be surprised.

I almost got my first born son named Luke, but Caleb fits him now I think.

His grandma made him the hat from a pattern she found online. If you really want one I could see if she'll make one, for a reasonable price. She said it was really hard compared to her usual knitted hats. Lots of extra stuff and different needles.
