Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

got mah new laptop. I start copying. Take a look at the drive. WTF. It's the same size. WTF.

I point it out. Hmm that's odd. Oh, it's because they imaged the previous smaller drive and so it put it onto the new one in the same format and size. I can only get access to all the extra space by setting up a new drive that is not named C.

IDK if I said this in my previous post, but the whole reason I can't just use an external hard drive is I have a ton of data that must sit on and be read from C. So I'm like no, that's not going to work. That defeats the entire purpose of me getting a larger main drive. They're like the only way to fix is to reformat the whole drive. I'm like yeah that's fine.

And it is, because I'd only been copying data for like 5 minutes. It's a pain for them because now they have to do all the setting up, again. Not my problem. I put this into emails.

Have I mentioned how I love switching computers?

I'm not certain they know what they're doing. You can clone a drive to a larger drive and extended the image to take up the whole space of the new drive.

I know there are some legal gurus in here and just plain wise people so suggestions on this problem would be appreciated:

Remember my old dbag roommate I constantly bitched about last year? Yeah well the rent deposit for our apartment came in the mail. He let the other roommate and I know that he deposited it and that he had received half of the check. Proceeded to give us our half and told us he'd give us the other half when it cleared.

That was 3+ weeks ago. Haven't heard from him since. We've tried calling and texting him multiple times to no receive no answer.

The property management has told us that the check had all three of our names on it and for him to deposit it the check he'd need all three signatures. The other roommate and I never signed the check yet he was still able to deposit it. Leads me to believe he either forged our signature or someone at the bank ****** up.

Does the rental company have a copy of the check. Depending on how they put the names, it's possible that he could have legally cashed it without forging.

they said the rest of the space would have to be set up as a different drive. Something about the old one being in a format that couldn't be converted to on the larger one? I'm like whatever, just do what needs to be done so all the space is in one "location".

I mean, right now they're working with the small, incorrect drive, and the correct new drive. We're not even talking about imaging my current drive. Though if it's a problem with my account, maybe they can't.
I still get to copy over all my own data and install all my programs again. Which there has to be a better way for because I think it took a total of 20+ hours to copy to an external.

Channeling my inner wxman flyboy today

This afternoon I was driving on I-393 and craning my neck to watch three WWII warbirds flying in formation. Couldn't get close enough to ID them though, just knew they were radials.

Tonight I channel flipped into Bridges at Toko-Ri. William Holden, Grace Kelly and first generation Navy jets. Going full wxman.

She was amazingly beautiful...and classy. Definitely worth two woots!

Already watched this a couple weeks ago so probably will channel flip out but just saw the incredibly cute family in the public bath scene. So well played when they encounter the Japanese family, "Yes, happy family". :)

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll try to head to student legal services next week. His bank is in Mt. Pleasant so obviously I can't go there but could call. With everything that's already going this is the last thing I need to be worrying about.

Pants, you missed out. I was prepping the bathroom for painting and I was singing the whole time. Bathrooms have nice acoustics.

I've never heard of a check that requires multiple signatures... that seems dumb af.

yeah I hadn't run into that either. Right after we got married, there were checks I couldn't cash because they were made out only to DH so I had to get his sig, but the bank up here never wanted us both to sign.

I should note that it was a bank up heer that only I had an account in, our bank in the hometown area at the time would have totes let me cash them since they'd have known I was for sure the wife.
