Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

While I understand the desire to want to protect your child, I just don't understand why the first reaction isn't to kennel the dog, or put the dog in a rescue. You're making it sound like if he snips again, that you're going to put the dog down. Some dogs are just not great with small children.

It is actually infuriating to me when people bring their very small children to the dog park, and then get pissed off if a dog runs by and maybe bumps into them. If it was a children's playground, the anger would be justified, but it isn't.

I think we are on the same page. As long as the dog is kenneled when we are there we don't care. If he bites and breaks skin that starts to be a whole other issue imo.

We don't take LittleWx to the dog park for that exact reason. Too many variables and it just not worth it.

Weekend ramble so feel free to skip.

Velo, I would've definitely stopped by had I seen your post. We walked right by you Saturday and my hand was lonely for a beverage.

The game was a blast. Our seats weren't great, but I really miss the vibe during game day. As normal, we ended up walking around campus reminiscing. It's still one of my favorite places I've been to. It's always cool to check out the new buildings and revisit the old haunts.

I was bummed about not being able to walk through Friley (locked now I guess) but I was able to wander through Helser since the door wasn't closed. Ok, so I don't think it could be closed because it was in crappy condition. Good ol' Helser. Still smelled the same.

Of all of the odd things to be impressed about, the food service over by UDA was quite a change from my day. My options used to be A) Do you want food or B) Do you not want food. There was no sushi. There were no smoothies. I probably looked like someone that saw fire for the first time.

My daughter keeps insisting she is going to Iowa State when she gets older. All I have to do is maintain her enthusiasm for the next 9 years. I can do this.

This reminded me that I want a UDCC spicy chicken sandwich real bad.

I used to work for the maintenance department and did numerous "repairs" to the north part of Helser over the years. I credit my shoddy workmanship and laissez-faire approach to maintenance as one of the reasons it was eventually torn down and replaced with UDCC.

You're welcome.

Was watching on TV so got to see the stats on the SA. They had six and we had eight. Seemed like ours came at crucial points in sets that killed a run for us or fueled the start of one for them. Reoccurring theme unfortunately.

Yup. Also seems Jess had more kills than I gave her credit for. But to be honest I can't watch the sets intently while trying to entertain two kids. They were bored, tired, and hungry. A Clone Cone only buys me so much time. And the youngest was enthusiastic about Cy the first time she saw him. After that it was "no thanks". The 5yr old did enjoy the band/music. Unfortunately I could not name every tune they played as I was asked. ;)

I have a 3 day work week and I'm trying desperately not to mentally check out already.

College Boxster was walking around Ledges State Park getting signatures on a petition to then Gov. Ray objecting to the Corps proposed operating plan for the Saylorville Reservoir.

And I end up working for the Corps for 36 years. Who would have thought.

You stuck it to the man by infiltrating the system. That's dedication to the cause, man.

So I went running yesterday for a competition between the law school and the med school. They said it was a five k, but it was way too short since I haven't run in a year but still beat my pr from Cross country in high school by about 2 minutes and I still had the energy to sprint at the end. And then I went running tonight with a friend. I might becoming one of those runner people.

My Ledges story.

After the flood of '93, my roommates and I went to Ledges to access the damage (i.e. do stupid stuff). We were wading through some waist-deep water when a 5 foot snake came swimming along the surface. I was in front of our trio and the snake swam behind me, turned towards my friend and then disappeared underwater.

I can only assume that the snake was not fond of urine, because my friend turned white as a sheet and made a scooby-doo looking exit, but lived.

Finally caught up on RTT. Fun weekend:

-My 8-year old had already finished his antibiotics for his ear infection last Monday. However, last Friday his eardrum ruptured again and started having drainage come out. Had to take him back to urgent care.
-While doing that, noticed Baby GTO also had a fever, so took him there as well. He also has an ear infection and decided to also come down with hand foot and mouth disease.
-Had to drive down to Austin TX on Saturday night and come back on Sunday night in order to make it to my nephew's birthday party. That was exhausting on such a short turnaround.
-Since baby GTO can't go to daycare this week, had to work from home this morning and I'll go into the office this afternoon once the wife gets home.
